Chrissy Teigen is not shy about sharing her views on Twitter. And, she has often faced backlash for those views and her posts.
This week, the former supermodel is being criticized for a tweet about traveling to Washington, D.C., for the inauguration of President Joe Biden.
On Tuesday, Jan. 19, the day before Inauguration Day, Teigen tweeted a photo of her son. She added the caption: My baby got his first fat lip pushing his car down the driveway … still happy packing for inauguration though!”
Teigen was traveling to D.C. to support husband John Legend who was performing as part of the celebration. Biden’s inauguration took place two weeks after the Capitol was overrun on Jan. 6. The city has since been occupied by thousands of servicemen and women.
Some Twitter users were not happy about Teigen’s tweet. According to a report from the New York Post, one user, @staceybrnan, responded to Teigen. She posted: “Hey Chrissy DC residents aren’t very ‘happy’ right now and can’t even ‘happy pack’ their cars to drive to the grocery store because of the military state the city is in but yeah LOL come on down especially in a pandemic. How happy!!!“
A fan of Chrissy Teigen’s came to the supermodel’s aid on Twitter and pointed out that Teigen had nothing to do with what happened in D.C. on Jan. 6. This didn’t appease the aforementioned Twitter user according to the New York Post. The user went on to call Teigen “tone deaf.”
“It’s all privilege and really minimizes what DC is going thru,” @staceybrnan also said.
The user also took aim at John Legend for traveling to Washington, D.C., to perform at the inauguration.
“Why couldn’t he do a virtual performance and also why does his whole family have to go when literally no one can move about the city?” @staceybrnan asked, according to the New York Post. “She should turn on the TV.”
Chrissy Teigen Responds to Criticism
For her part, Chrissy Teigen responded to the tweets.
“For f**ks sake why are you guys always mad at me,” Teigen posted. “All I wanna do is make you happy or at least leave you with a neutral feeling of indifference.”
There were Twitter users who came to Teigen’s defense.
“He is adorable; shame on these trolls!” one wrote. “You do what you think is right. Go but just be careful. You and your kids are living through history and it’s important. It’s also great to see a happy family. DC isn’t just for the dysfunctional crazies! Bring us some sunshine girl.”
“Aaahhh!! Poor sweetie,” another wrote. “Have a great time at the inauguration and I look forward to seeing John’s performance. And not everybody is a hater.”
Teigen also posted a video of her with John Legend watching the inauguration news coverage.
