Chrissy Teigen’s representatives are reportedly firing back at a recent cyberbullying accuser. According to them, the messages are fake news.

Fashion designer Michael Costello recently came forward as the latest to accuse Teigen of cyberbullying. He shared Instagram direct messages with media outlets. In the DMs, Teigen allegedly threatened to torpedo and ruin Costello’s career.

But reps for Teigen are claiming the messages are fake. They discussed the matter with Business Insider, which investigated these claims. Teigen’s reps said there were inconsistencies in the design layout of the messages compared to Instagram in 2014.

For instance, they claimed Teigen’s name within the messages didn’t have a verification checkmark. Instagram rolled out that feature in 2014. Teigen reportedly had her verification checkmark by her name at least in early 2015. The messages also featured an icon for video chat, which Instagram didn’t implement until 2018. That icon was reportedly beside a profile pic of Teigen that the TV personality switched out two years prior.

Michael Costello Accuses Chrissy Teigen

The controversy involving Michael Costello is the recent chapter in the Chrissy Teigen story. The popular TV personality fell from grace after Courtney Stodden stepped forward with cyberbullying allegations. Stodden said Teigen encouraged her to commit suicide in several messages.

Since then, online users have discovered old tweets from Teigen. She reportedly harassed celebrities like Lindsay Lohan, Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey, and others. Several people including Piers Morgan have criticized Teigen for her reportedly bad behavior.

Costello was the latest accuser. He stepped forward after Teigen returned to social media with an apology. He said Teigen targeted him after fake messages containing racist remarks were falsely attributed to him. For instance, Costello shared an alleged DM from Teigen that said: “Racist people like you deserve to suffer and die. You might as well be dead. Your career is over, just watch.”

Costello also said these messages made him think thoughts of suicide as a result. Meanwhile, Teigen is hoping to put the controversy behind her. She recently apologized on social media and to media outlets. She is also reportedly hoping to schedule a high-profile sitdown with Oprah Winfrey.

“Chrissy is in talks with Oprah to do a Meghan Markle sit-down type interview. And tell her truth,” an anonymous source said. “Chrissy is a fighter. And believes that she is such an excellent communicator that there isn’t a mess she can’t talk her way out of!”

“Every news outlet in the world has contacted Chrissy about getting her first on-camera interview, but Oprah is her first choice. If Oprah can forgive Chrissy, then so can the nation.”

Either way it appears the controversy is still far from over.
