Just a little over a year after Paramount pulled COPS, the longtime running show has returned with all-new episodes on Fox streaming service.
As previously reported, Fox News declared on Twitter that the COPS would be returning on October 1st. “The Blue is back! COPS reboot to air exclusively on Fox Nation starting October 1st.”
Fox Nation President Jason Klarman described COPS as one of the most iconic brands on television with a passionate fan base. The network wanted to show its appreciation for all the first responders by combining the launch with a free one-year subscription. This was a gesture as a way to give back in a “small way” to those who put their lives on the line every day to keep regular citizens safe.
According to IMDb, COPS followers real-life law enforcement officers from various regions and departments of the U.S. They are armed with nothing but cameras to capture their actions. The show ran from 1989 until 2020 and has more than 1100 episodes. The revival kicks off season 33 of the show. COPS also received four primetime Emmy nominations during its original run.
Four episodes of COPS were released on October 1st. The network confirmed that a new episode will be made available each Friday.
‘COPS’ Creator John Langley Passes Away Before Show Reboot
Earlier this summer, John Langley, the creator of COPS, passed away at the age of 78. According to the New York Post, Langley died from complications related to a sudden heart attack. He was in the Coast to Coast Ensenada-San Felipe 250 off-road race in Baja, Mexico when the heart attack occurred.
Often credit as being the “Godfather of Reality Television,” Langley was also involved in other television series, including Code 3, Anatomy of Crime, Video Justice, and Cop Files. He also produced Undercover Sting. He was also a producer for Antoine Fuqua’s Brooklyn’s Finest.
FOX Nation Also Announces New Limited Series ‘COPS: All Access With Geraldo’
Along with the revival of COPS, FOX National announced a new limited series COPS: All Access With Geraldo. Geraldo Rivera is hosting the show. According to a press release, Rivera is recapping the first four episodes of Season 33 with executive producer, Morgan Langley.
Speaking about the new show, FOX News Media CEO Suzanne Scott, says, “Geraldo has been an important voice on FOX News Channel over the last two decades. We are thrilled to have him continue to be a part of the FOX family.”
Rivera went on to add, “COPS is back to portray the very best in police work. The veteran producers and I pledge the show will accurately reflect the fact bad guys come in all colors and creeds. Crime is an equal opportunity offender. And COPS will be there to bust bad guys and keep us all safe.”
