Clint Eastwood is back in the saddle! Quite literally.
The Hollywood icon is 91 and will be releasing his latest project on Sept. 17. He directed and starred in Cry Macho, which will debut in theaters and HBO Max. He just may very well be the oldest actor/director to head a major motion picture. The movie has been described as a modern Western that finds Eastwood’s character helping a young man across the United States and Mexico border.
Eastwood spoke to Yahoo! News about his new film, which involved stunts. Getting back on a horse after a decade was worrisome for the trainer on site. This marked the first time that he rode since the movie Unforgiven, thirty years ago! It came naturally to him and he was not worried in the slightest.
“The wrangler was worried,” he admitted. “She was saying, ‘Be careful, be careful now.’ She was scared I’d end up on my rear end,” Eastwood remembers. “But if you treat the horse like a buddy, he’ll take care of you.”
He also threw a punch in the new movie, which does feature quite a bit of action. “It might not be as good as I’ve thrown in the past but it was fun to do it,” he added.
Clint Eastwood may not be a spring chicken, but he doesn’t care about that. “I don’t look like I did at 20, so what?” he questioned. “That just means there are more interesting guys you can play.”
Clint Eastwood’s ‘Cry Macho’
The movie is set in 1979. Eastwood rarely directs and stars in projects. He did both of the jobs in Gran Torino back in 2008 and in 2018’s The Mule.
Furthermore, Clint Eastwood, actor, director, and producer portrays the role of Mike Milo. Milo was a rodeo star and now a horse breeder. He took a job from one of his ex-bosses to bring the boss’ son to the United States from Mexico.
“It’s about a man who has been through some hard times in his life and then unexpectedly another challenge is brought to the foreground. He would normally never do it but he is a man of his word. He follows through. And it starts his life over again,” Eastwood said of Milo.
While the characters run into adventure through their trip in Texas, one of those occurrences involves a rooster. “The rooster would do exactly what he’s supposed to, everything, it was very simple and kind of fun,” he shared.
Finally, Cry Macho is actually based on a 1975 novel. Numerous people attempted to make a movie adaptation.
