When it comes to connecting “Dumb & Dumber” with an actor like Clint Eastwood, it seems like it would be hard to connect the dots.

Eastwood is an actor and director known for both Westerns as well as serious drama films. Meanwhile, “Dumb & Dumber” is one of the most notorious slapstick comedy films of all time starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels.

Jeff Daniels recently appeared on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” where he talked about an encounter he had with Clint Eastwood in the past. The two were walking down the set together when Eastwood said, “If you can do 2 Days in the Valley and you can do Dumb & Dumber, you can do this.”

Eastwood was referring to how expansive Daniels’ career has been so far. The movie “2 Days in the Valley” is a crime film full of intense drama, murder, and betrayal, which is the exact opposite of everything he offers in “Dumb and Dumber.”

Eastwood and Daniels would work together on “Blood Work.” Daniels even says he owes his role in that film to Eastwood adoring his past projects in Hollywood. “Blood Work” is a 2002 mystery thriller that Clint Eastwood both directed and starred in. He also appeared alongside Daniels, Wanda De Jesús, and Anjelica Huston.

Clint Eastwood and Jeff Daniels Talk ‘Dumb & Dumber’

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Eastwood approached Daniels at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am golf tournament at the time. It is an absolutely infamous moment for Daniels as he hears from Eastwood that one of the most popular moments from “Dumb & Dumber” is relatable to “The Man with No Name.”

“I’m in the breakfast tent on Wednesday, and I am going to go play. All of a sudden, Clint Eastwood comes walking across the breakfast tent and he’s looking right at me. And he [says], ‘Jeff Daniels. I saw Dumb & Dumber. The toilet scene — that happened to me.’ He started laughing and turned around and walked away,” Daniels said.

If you’ve seen “Dumb & Dumber,” it’s hard to forget the scene in question. Harry Dunne, played by Daniels, drinks a laxative by accident and ends up hilariously relieving himself on a broken toilet in his love interest’s house. Now we all want to know what experience Clint Eastwood had that is so similar.

In many ways, it may come as a bit of a surprise that someone like Clint Eastwood would be infatuated with a graphically disgusting scene in “Dumber & Dumber.” After all, Eastwood isn’t known for his comedic grace.

He’s far from a comedian, but he’s had his funny moments over the years. As for Daniels, you can check him out in the Showtime series “American Rust” and eventually on Broadway in the fall to reprise his “To Kill a Mockingbird” role.

For fans of Clint Eastwood, his all-new movie is right around the corner. “Cry Macho” will release in theaters and on HBO Max on September 17, 2021. The neo-Western drama film is a chance for Eastwood to star, direct, and produce once again. It’s proof that he’s nowhere close to being ready to retire, despite being 91.
