It is the end of an era. Conan O’Brien, the longest-running late-night host in the game, has set the end date for his TBS nightly talk show.

Come Summer 2021, Conan O’Brien will no longer host a nighttime talk show. If this sounds like a big deal, that’s because it is. O’Brien has been a late-night staple since 1993 when he took up NBC’s Late Show after David Letterman’s own late-night upgrade.

Now, this 28-year run is set to come to a close on June 24, 2021. O’Brien announced the finale himself Monday night.

Fans of one Conan O’Brian need not fret, however. The host signed a deal with WarnerMedia, parent company to both TBS and HBO, in late 2020 that will see him “host and produce a weekly variety show for HBO Max and continue making the Conan Without Borders travel specials for TBS,” THR reports.

Through that same deal, TBS set his nightly talk show, Conan, for a 2021 end. And now the finale is set, which will include a look back at his 11-year run with TBS.

Conan O’Brien is ‘Winding Down’ his TBS Show

“We are winding down our TBS show,” O’Brien announced at the beginning of Monday’s Conan airing. “The plan is to re-emerge on HBO Max sometime in the near future with I think what will be my fourth iteration of the program. Imagine a cooking show with puppets, and you’ll also have the wrong idea.”

No bad blood exists through the deal, either. O’Brien added that “for 11 years, the people at Turner have been absolutely lovely to me.”

And Conan’s not tooting his own horn with praise for his remarkable run, either. Brett Weitz, the general manager of TBS and a handful of other networks, adds that “Twenty-eight years is a monumental achievement in late-night television.”

“We’re incredibly proud of the groundbreaking work that Conan and his team have accomplished during the 10 years at TBS and are so glad that we will continue to have his presence on our air with the Conan Without Borders specials. We celebrate his success and are glad to see it grow across our WarnerMedia family,” Weitz also said in the company’s original 2020 announcement.
