Country superstar, Luke Bryan kicked off the Super Bowl in 2017 with a powerful rendition of the National Anthem.
Bryan took the stage at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, before the New England Patriots took on the Atlanta Falcons during Super Bowl LI. The country star wore his classic shirt, jeans and dark jacket ensemble. He delivered a straight-forward yet powerful rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner.” As he concluded his performance, Air Force Thunderbirds flew over the stadium.
Luke Bryan Sparks Controversy After Reading Lyrics From His Hands
Bryan performed the Anthem for the MLB All-Star game just a few years before performing at the Super Bowl. His performance was just as passionate. However, he did spark some controversy when he read a few lyrics he had written on his hands. Some people viewed his actions as tacky or unpatriotic. But, he assured them that his performance was “from the heart.” In a post responding to the controversy, Bryan explained why he wrote down the lyrics.
Bryan wrote, “I had a few keys words written down to insure myself that I wouldn’t mess up. I just wanted to do my best. I promise it was from the heart.”
Bryan then followed up with another Tweet saying, “If I offended anyone with my approach I sincerely apologize. Anytime I sing the anthem it is an honor and my heart beats out of my chest.”
Luke Bryan, we get it. If we had to perform for thousands of people during an event as big as the all-Star game, we’d take down some notes too! Luckily, fans were quick to forgive as well.
One fan replied, ” We still love you!” Another responded, “You did awesome!” While another took a moment to shoot her shot. She wrote, “Luke Bryan, you’re sexy.”
Another country star is singing the National Anthem during the Super Bowl tomorrow. Eric Church will perform the song along with Jazmine Sullivan for Super Bowl LV.
