On the date of what would be the fifty-fourth birthday of Kurt Cobain, his wife Courtney Love remembers her deceased husband. The Nirvana frontman committed suicide 27 years ago after a long struggle with substance abuse.

In memory of her lover, Love posted a throwback photo of Cobain with a quote from the band’s 1993 compilation album, Insecticide.

“Happy Birthday Beautiful Boy,” Courtney Love wrote on her Instagram today.

“At this point, I have a request for our fans. If any of you hate homosexuals, people of a different color, or women, please, do this one favor for us -leave us the f*ck alone! Don’t come to our shows and don’t buy our records,” the quote reads. That can be found in the liner notes of the album, written by Kurt Cobain himself.

Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain Relationship

Most sources cite a 1989 show as being the first meeting of Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain. However, not everyone agrees on what that first meeting was.

For instance, Everett True, a music journalist, claims that he personally introduced Love and Cobain. He claims that it happened 1991 concert featuring L7 and the Butthole Surfers. While that may not have been their very first meeting, it was when the two started talking seriously.

Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love married in February of the next year coming right off the tail of Nirvana’s Pacific Rim tour. In classic grunge style, Cobain showed up to his own wedding wearing a pair of his favorite pajamas.

They also didn’t wait too long to introduce a new daughter to their family. Frances Bean, born later in 1992, is currently 28 years old and has her own career in art, design, modeling, and music like both of her parents.

Due to their superstar lifestyle, Love and Cobain’s marriage received a lot of media attention. Also, the two were known to have some pretty raging drug abuse issues. Courtney Love claimed that she stopped using after the birth of their first child, however, that was not the case for Kurt Cobain.

In fact, his struggle with substance abuse worsened as he grew older. This led to his suicide on April 5, 1994. According to several documentaries that have come out since his death, Courtney Love may have been directly involved with the death.
