Daniel Craig Says ‘It Was Time to Finish’ with James Bond

Daniel Craig is saying goodbye to James Bond in 2021’s No Time to Die, and for the actor, it’s a bittersweet moment. He’s still reeling from just being able to play James Bond and says it’ll take a while for it all to really sink in.

“I think it will take me 15 years to unpick all of this,” he told Good Morning America. “It’s so crazy. Getting a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame, that’s so surreal to me from where I come from in life. So, yeah I’m kind of just taking it all in.”

Craig has been in 5 bond films since 2006’s Casino Royale. Other films include Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, and Spectre. On Wednesday, Oct.6, Craig will be the 2,704th celebrity to be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His star will be right next to another well-known Bond: Roger Moore.

Daniel Craig also described his last outing as James Bond as an emotional time in his life. He said, “To think back for a second of what was achieved and what these movies have meant to so many people it’s such a big deal.” Craig realizes when a role has been played to its full potential, though, and he said, “But it’s time to finish. It’s done.”

James Bond is Still Big at the Box Office

No Time to Die was delayed so many times, fans speculated if they’d ever get to see it. Originally slated for April 2020, the pandemic put a halt on that and pushed it all the way back to October 2021, where it seems to have stuck.

The film released in international theaters recently, and racked up an impressive $119 million at the box office. In comparison, Skyfall earned $109 million and Spectre hauled in a whopping $123 million. Of course, Spectre didn’t have a pandemic to compete with.

So far, No Time to Die is the highest-grossing film made during the pandemic; the new Venom brought in $90 million, while Dune also broke $100 million. But fans will have to wait until October 8 to see how the new James Bond film will do at the domestic box office.

How Daniel Craig Feels About Bond

In August, Craig spoke to South China Morning Post about how the James Bond role has changed him. “The role has changed my life and career in a thousand ways,” he said. He made it clear from the beginning that he wanted to be a part of production, and that choice gave him freedom in his career that a lot of actors don’t experience.

He was able to change the canon Bond character in a way that fans seem to love. “The original Bond was always in turmoil with himself. Always questioning. Maybe he got smoother as the books went on,” he said. It’ll be sad to watch this James Bond in his last film, but let’s hope he goes out in a blaze of glory.
