The Performance From Katy Perry and Darius Rucker
The country crooner and pop star teamed up for a breathtaking one of a kind performance on the AMAs on Sunday, Nov. 22. The song is off of Perry’s latest studio album, SMILE. The duo reimagined the song for a more stripped back and soulful rendition.
The performance began with Perry dressed in all denim sitting across from Rucker with his guitar at hand. Spotlights surrounded the pair on an empty black stage. The emotional performance had the two singing about love during a time that we all need it and what you would do if you had one day left to live.
“If I had one day left to live / And if the stars went out on me, the truth is / Yeah, there’s so much I’d say and do /If I had nothing to lose, nah, nothing to lose,” the pair sing.
What They Had to Say
Rucker and Perry were announced as a duet just hours before the awards show began. The pair teased their collaboration on social media.
“Went back to church, met a new friend @dariusrucker and found #OnlyLove,” Perry tweeted. “Tune in for Katheryn (Perry’s legal name) on the @AMAs tonight.” In a separate post, Perry dedicated their performance to her father.
Rucker is the only solo country artist to perform at this year’s awards show. Dan + Shay are also set to perform during the show. Although there were only two country acts performing, there are several country awards categories.
This isn’t Rucker’s first rodeo when it comes to collaborating. He recently co-hosted and performed “In the Ghetto,” with Reba McEntire during the 2020 CMA Awards.
