‘Deadliest Catch’: Why Fans Questioned If Captain Jake Anderson’s The Saga Finally Sank

by Katie Maloney

“Deadliest Catch” fans know that anything can happen on the show.

So, it makes sense why some fans would suspect that when the show stops featuring a boat, it must have sunk. At least, that was the case for fan theories surrounding captain Jake Anderson’s The Saga. Professional skateboarder and fourth-generation fisherman, Jake Anderson arrived on the scene during season three of “Deadliest Catch.” No, he hasn’t been the most popular with crew or fans. But he’s always been eager to prove himself. And his commitment to the craft landed him a spot as captain of the famed ship, the F/V Saga. He took over for former captain Elliot Neese.

However, after a near-tragic accident during season 16 (we’ll talk about that more later), Captain Jake and The Saga were nowhere to be found. For this reason, fans started imagining the worst.

What Happened To The Saga On ‘Deadliest Catch’

However, the ship hasn’t been prominently featured over the last couple of seasons and fans are wondering why. Some fans even believe that the ship sank. This isn’t too hard to believe for two reasons. First, it’s “Deadliest Catch” and anything can happen on the show. Second, it turns out that The Saga’s name is a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy. The ship has suffered a long, drawn-out saga of unfortunate accidents and incredibly close calls. A perfect example of this took place during the 19th episode of season 16 titled, “Rogue Wave Juggernaut.” During the episode, The Saga’s rutter started to fail. So, crew members had to jump out of the boat and fit the rutter while navigating perilous waters. If they didn’t fix the rutter in time, they would have lost control of the ship and they would have sunk. Luckily, the team was able to fix the rutter and avoid disaster. But the curse of The Saga lives on.

So, when season 17 of “Deadliest Catch” rolled around and The Saga was nowhere to be found, fans started to think it was out for repair, or worse, it sank. Thankfully, concern was eased when The Saga appeared in this past season’s episode titled “Restricted Zone.” Although The Saga’s absence has not been fully explained, it has made a few more appearances to the delight of fans. Nothing can keep the famed Saga out of the spotlight for long!

‘Deadliest Catch’ Stars Admit That They Get Seasick

You’d think that the fishermen who take on one of the most dangerous and challenging jobs would have strong stomachs. But that’s not necessarily the case. In fact, two “Deadliest Catch” stars admitted to getting seasick almost every time they’re on the boat. During an interview in 2018, stars Josh Harris and Captain Jake Anderson revealed the truth.

“Every time,” said Harris when asked if he ever gets sea sick.

“I do,” said Anderson. “Seasick, every time. And now that I’m a captain, I sit in a chair and it’s the only place I’m not seasick.”
