When a show gets a reboot, there are some things that go unanswered at times. The same goes for the Dexter reboot. New Blood did a good job explaining parts of the missing story in the first episode. However, there is one big question remaining.
Fans will remember at the end of the original series, Harrison, Dexter’s son was sent off to Argentina with Hannah McKay. Now, Harrison has found his father in the frozen town of Iron Lake and there are some plot points missing there. Hannah was added after the show’s original showrunner, Clyde Phillips, had already left. So, he doesn’t really have any attachment to the character.
The actress, Yvonne Strahovski is not going to appear in the new series. So, that begs the question, what happened to Hannah? Is it possible that part of Harrison’s upbringing included another violent death? It would fit the show and the seemingly cursed Morgan family story. He was able to make his way to Iron Lake, and viewers will likely get a look at that journey. Hopefully, there is some explainer in the upcoming episodes.
While it wouldn’t be good to throw it in for the sake of slowing down the main plot points, it is interesting. Over the years Dexter writers were not afraid of killing off characters. Much to fans’ dismay, Deb is a glaring example.
So far the show has done a good job of keeping that finale as canon. It has helped the transition into the future on New Blood from a storytelling standpoint. Hannah hasn’t been mentioned yet, so perhaps it is something the writers just don’t care to refer back to. Viewers will have to wait and see.
‘Dexter: New Blood’ Dexter is Now Jim a Decade Later
As we found out from the first episode, the timeline has been pushed 10 years in the future. Dexter, is now Jim. He has been living in Iron Lake and has established his life in upstate New York. Living modestly, he has not killed anyone in the 10 years since he moved. However, his dark passenger remains, only this time it isn’t his father.
No, Dexter’s dark passenger is now represented by his dead sister, Deb Morgan. So for fans that were wondering how she was going to be brought back into the show, there is your answer. While her character has passed on, she lives on with Dex…er Jim.
Since his Miami days, the do-good killer has gotten rusty. His passenger, Deb is going to have to help guide him. He can’t risk getting caught. Especially with his son Harrison back in the mix. His son may also have his own dark passenger and there are some great rumors about who it is going to be.
