District Attorney Says Chris Daughtry’s Step-Daughter’s Death Is Not a Homicide

The Tennessee district attorney handling the investigation into “American Idol” alum Chris Daughtry’s step-daughter’s death says it is currently not a homicide but a death investigation.

In a new statement, prosecutors looking into Hannah Price’s death stressed that the case is not a homicide investigation at this stage. The 8th District Tennessee D.A. told TMZ, “This is a death investigation and any attempt to classify it as a homicide investigation at this time is premature and irresponsible.”

Sources linked to the Daughtry family had previously told TMZ that detectives had described Price’s death to the family as a homicide.

Chris Daughtry’s Step-Daughter Was Found Dead at Her Home on Friday

Price was pronounced dead at the scene at her house in Fentress County, Tennessee on Friday. Authorities are still investigating her death.

The 25-year-old and her brother Griffin, 23, are the children of Daughtry’s wife Deanna from a previous marriage. The couple also have 10-year old twins together, Adalynn Rose and Noah James, per E! News.

Price had two children of her own, Liam, 7, and Lilly, 1.

In a statement released in the wake of Price’s death, Deanna wrote, “We are awaiting the autopsy results to determine how Hannah sustained the injuries that caused her death. Our hearts are broken.”

Price Had Had a Rough Few Years

The past few years had been difficult for Price, the New York Post reports. Her biological father committed suicide. She got shot in the face when confronted by a gang. And then she got arrested along with the male driver of a car in a hit-and-run.

In 2018, Chris Daughtry’s step-daughter followed her roommate to an area of Humboldt, Tennessee that was populated by gang members. They crossed paths with a teenager who was trying to join the Crips, and who reportedly tried to kill her roommate. Price got shot in the face in the incident.

This past April, Price and a man were arrested in a hit-and-run incident. According to police, the male driver with Price allegedly fired a gun at another car before leaving the scene.

As for what happened Friday, the circumstances surrounding Price’s death remain unclear.

Meanwhile, Daughtry has suspended all his scheduled shows and taken to social media to mourn his step-daughter.

“I am absolutely devastated and heartbroken,” Daughtry wrote on Instagram. “I just recently lost my mother to cancer but I was blessed with the chance to say goodbye and I was processing it privately. We never got to say goodbye to our precious Hannah and it’s another huge hit to our family.”
