DMX Memorial at the Barclays Center: Here’s What to Know About the Service

Late Saturday afternoon, a memorial service for legendary rapper DMX is scheduled to be held inside of the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The home of the Brooklyn Nets will welcome the family and close friends of the late rapper as they mourn their loved one. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will not be open to the public. However, DMX’s YouTube channel will live stream the event, which begins at 4 p.m. EST.

In a statement, event organizers said they would follow New York COVID-19 testing guidelines and protocols. Therefore the event will limit capacity to 10% in the indoor arena. Furthermore, the statement didn’t share any extra details on who would be in attendance. In addition, there was no mention of who may speak or perform at DMX’s memorial service.

DMX’s funeral service will be held the following day on Sunday. It will air live on BET and the network’s YouTube channel starting at 2:30 p.m. EST.

DMX Suffers Drug Overdose, Passes Away After Days in a Coma

Earlier this month on April 3, DMX allegedly went into cardiac arrest after suffering from a drug overdose. Medics rushed DMX to a local hospital after finding him unresponsive. Doctors placed him in a coma, but the rapper and actor sadly never woke up.

DMX’s family shared a statement on his health through a representative following his hospitalization. The family confirmed that he was in critical condition. However, they said the rapper has been “a warrior his entire life” as they hoped he would overcome his diagnosis.

“Last night, Earl ‘DMX’ Simmons was rushed to the hospital after collapsing at home,” the family’s statement said. “At this time, he remains in ICU in critical condition. Earl has been a warrior his entire life. This situation represents yet another road he must conquer.”

“The Simmons Family appreciates the overwhelming outpouring of heartfelt love, encouragement, support, and prayers for Earl,” the statement continued. “Earl is someone whose life and music have been a source of inspiration and strength to so many people around the world.  It is reassuring to see his fans return that same passion and energy to him during his time of need.”

As the rapper continued to fight for his life, his fans rallied behind him. Hundreds of fans gathered outside of his hospital while thousands more sent well-wishes and prayers on social media. Unfortunately, DMX passed away on April 9 after being on life support for days.
