Dog the Bounty Hunter got his reputation mostly from reality TV. On the other hand, there’s Nicolas Cage who found his spot in Hollywood for a growing list of drama and action flicks. As it stands, Dog’s estimated net worth sits right at about $6 million while Nicolas Cage reportedly had around quadruple that in 2017 (though reports show he’s relatively broke now).

You would think they live in two different worlds. And while the two haven’t crossed paths often, they have crossed paths at least once. Actually, Nicolas Cage might even owe Dog the Bounty Hunter a favor for this interaction because Dog once bailed him out of jail. Details below.

Dog the Bounty Hunter Was a Big Fan of the ‘National Treasure’ Star

Though Nicolas Cage recently wed his fifth wife, Riko Shibata, Dog the Bounty Hunter found him during his tumultuous marriage with Alice Kim. That marriage actually lasted over a decade, but it reportedly involved several big arguments. After one of these alleged heated moments in 2011, Nicolas Cage was arrested in New Orleans. This happened approximately 5 years before Nicolas Cage’s official divorce from Alice Kim.

At the time, the “National Treasure” franchise was still pretty popular. It’s even gained an estimated revenue nearing $1 billion since. Dog the Bounty Hunter was actually a self-proclaimed fan of the movies and rushed to aid Nicolas Cage. He told reporters the following on the matter: “I am a truly dedicated fan of Mr. Cage and will not be granting any interviews about my client as I wish to respect his privacy.”

Dog then went on: “I performed my duties as a bail bondsman and not in connection with our show. This is what I do for a living.”

What Actually Happened That Day?

Reports show that the incident actually did get pretty heated. The New Orleans Police Department says it responded to a drunken disagreement between Cage, who was 47 at the time, and Alice Kim, who was 27. Upon arrival, they found Cage “heavily intoxicated and arguing with his wife… in front of a home [in New Orleans].”

Things reportedly escalated and, at one point, Cage got physical with Kim. Police say he grabbed her by the arm and tried to drag her towards the property. Their reports did not indicate any signs of physical injury. Police presence seemed to agitate the star because next, they note that he turned to property destruction. He began to “strike” cars nearby and tried to enter a cab. Police asked him to exit the cab on account of his inebriated state, but that didn’t go well.

Apparently, he taunted back: “Why don’t you just arrest me?”

So, they did.

They arrested Cage on counts of domestic abuse and disturbing the peace. With the help from his legal team and Dog the Bounty Hunter, he avoided any official charges.

In response to similar incidents from his past, Nicolas Cage said the following: “I mean everybody makes mistakes. It’s part of being human…Some people say you have to be a sinner before you can be a saint.”
