Dolly Parton topped the Christian charts for the first time in her long and industrious career. Parton’s song “There Was Jesus” placed No. 1 on Billboard’s Christian Airplay chart. The song also topped the chart for Christian Adult Contemporary Songs.
Parton recorded the song with singer Zach Williams, in a duet. The single released last year, and the two performed a live rendition at the CMA Awards in November.
“Having a No. 1 record at any time is a great thing, but having a No. 1 faith-based record during these crazy times is even greater,” Parton, 74, told Billboard. “I feel humbled and blessed to be part of this wonderful song with Zach Williams. It does my heart good to know that we have touched the lives of so many people.”
Dolly Parton holds a number of Billboard records.
The recognition was another feather in Parton’s cap. The singer, known perhaps most famously for “9 to 5,” holds several records in Billboard history. Parton has 25 No.1 hits on the Hot Country Songs charts. This is the highest for any female recording artist. She is also the only singer to have 20 hits on the charts for five consecutive decades between 1960 and 2010.
Parton’s latest accomplishment brings a new record. Parton is the first musician to have topped the Adult Contemporary, Christian AC Songs, Christian Airplay, Country Airplay and Dance/Mix Show Airplay radio charts.
“I don’t even know hardly what to say about all the No. 1s in all the different fields of music,” Parton said. “Thank you God, thank you fans and thank you everyone who has worked so hard to make this possible.”
Later this year, Parton plans to release her first holiday album in 30 years called “A Holly Dolly Christmas“. Parton’s own record label, Butterfly Records, will release the album in partnership with12Tone Music Group. “Cuddle Up Cozy Down Christmas” will be the first single and feature Michael Bublé.
