Just days before the 2020 election day, President Donald Trump’s Hollywood Walk Fame Star is destroyed once again.
However, TMZ caught the vandal on camera this time, and it isn’t the man’s first offense. James Otis is responsible for destroying the Walk of Fame star on numerous occasions since 2016. This time, Otis was dressed in his Sunday best for the demolition process. Armed with his trusty pickaxe, he went to work on the star.
The star was covered with plywood and had a fence surrounding the perimeter of it. This didn’t slow down Otis in the least. Once he had finished redecorating the star, he turned himself into police, who booked him with a vandalism felony.
The first time police arrested Otis was in February of 2017. Officials charged him with three years of probation, along with community service. In addition, he was fined $4,400.
The last time Otis destroyed President Trump‘s star was only four weeks ago. He was in a different costume, however. This time he decided to show his strength in an Incredible Hulk outfit. Again, officials charged Otis with a vandalism felony.
In April, the star was vandalized once again. The vandal covered the star in black paint with the words “Putin’s B**ch” sprayed across it in white. The star was back to normal within a few hours.
How to Get a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
It is no easy feat to obtain a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It might be obvious, but first, one must become famous in one of the five categories, film, TV, radio, recording, and theatre/ live performance.
Once you achieve a celebrity’s ranking, you must prove that you want a star with a statement. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce then reviews the application once a year to decide who will be added. There are more than 2,690 stars along the 15 block stretch.
Once your application has been approved, you have to pay a sponsorship fee of $30,000. Half of that fee goes towards creating the star, which is made out of brass and terrazzo. The other half goes toward the Hollywood Historic Trust. The trust is in charge of looking after the Walk of Fame.
