‘Duck Dynasty’: Daughter of Korie and Willie Robertson Speaks Out on Dealing with Racism

There’s been a surge of anti-Asian racism in our country over recent months, and the adopted daughter of Duck Dynasty stars Willie and Korie Robertson knows the sentiment all too well.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Rebecca Robertson Loflin has dealt with hate directed at her because of her Asian heritage. The 32-year-old is of Taiwanese descent and recently opened up about her painful experiences. She shared her story on an episode of her adoptive parents’ Facebook Watch series, At Home with the Robertsons.

Rebecca revealed an incident that occurred at a local restaurant while she was out to dinner with her family. While enjoying a meal with her husband, John Reed Loflin, and their 2-year-old son, Zane Israel, an acquaintance made some mean-spirited jokes to her face.

“Someone that we know came over – an acquaintance of John Reed’s. And he just came over and was like, ‘John Reed, you’re so lucky because your wife and kid are Chinese. You can just send them to the grocery store to get toilet paper because everyone would just run away from them,’” Rebecca recalled. “That was the beginning of quarantine when we were all out of toilet paper or whatever.”

“He thought that was like a funny joke. But it really wasn’t funny because, first of all, we’re not Chinese,” she added. “Again, you know, I think it’s just people kind of being ignorant and they don’t think that’s racist.”

‘Duck Dynasty’ Star’s Family Has Her Back

Rebecca became part of the Robertsons’ lives as a 16-year-old foreign exchange student. Her adopted mother, Korie, shared that the family “fell in love with her from day one.” Even though she eventually became their legal daughter, Rebecca maintains a close relationship with her biological mother who still lives in Taiwan.

Both Willie and Korie Robertson chimed in during the recent episode of At Home with the Robertsons. Korie says that she understands how tough the last year has been for everyone. However, she disagrees with people that blame all Asians for the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I think it’s really sad that we’re experiencing a pandemic and there’s tough things going on in the world. But to add to that that people are blaming all Asian people on what’s going on in our world right now, that’s a hard thing for Asian people to have to carry,” Korie said.

Thankfully, Rebecca has had an amazing and supportive family to lean on while dealing with these recent issues. Her 23-year-old sister, Sadie, thanked Rebecca for sharing her experiences with the family and those watching.

Sadie says that Rebecca and their adopted brother, Will – who is half Black – has helped her and the rest of their family further understand issues people face because of their nationality or the color of their skin.

“It’s just crazy ’cause I only know y’all as my brother and sister and know nothing different,” Sadie explained. “But it’s cool to get to know about things y’all have to go through and experience. So [I] always want y’all to know I’m here for y’all and your friends, and anybody that’s going through something like what y’all have had to face.”

Hopefully, Rebecca’s story will help bring awareness to these important issues. With her Duck Dynasty family in her corner, they’re spreading the message that racism of any kind is unacceptable.
