One member of the cast of the classic television show “The Dukes of Hazzard” once shared a pretty interesting idea for a spinoff series.

That cast member was Catherine Bach. She is the actress who played Daisy Duke, the short-shorts-wearing cousin of the mischievous Duke boys on the sitcom. And, while Bach and the character became famous for what she wore on camera, Daisy was more than just her outfits. Daisy was strong and could hold her own with pretty much anyone in Hazzard County, Georgia. This included her cousins, Bo and Luke Duke.

In April 1997, “The Dukes of Hazzard” actress spoke with Entertainment Weekly about being on the show and the role Daisy Duke had on popular culture. It was during this interview that Bach shared her idea for a spinoff show. And, of course, the idea had Daisy as its central character.

“If Daisy had a show now, what would it be about?,” the interviewer asked Bach.

Here’s what the actress had to say: “Daisy goes to New York — she’s the country girl, the fish out of water, and she’s a cop. She always gets the bad guy and helps people with their self-esteem and has a wholesome, feet-on-the-earth philosophy.”

Catherine Bach Thought Daisy’s Show Should Take Place in New York

That sounds like a pretty great idea of a “Dukes of Hazzard” spinoff, actually. Even though she would be a “fish out of water” in the Big Apple, there’s no doubt that Daisy Duke would have found success there. Unfortunately, fans never got to see that on the screen. Catherine Bach never got to see her idea come to fruition.

It’s probably a safe bet that Daisy Duke would have made a good police officer. After all, she had many qualities that would be assets to that job. Fans got to see these during her years on “The Dukes of Hazzard.”

“Whatever she did, she could shoot better, drive better, do everything better than a guy,” Bach also told Entertainment Weekly. “Whenever the guys were in trouble, she stepped in. She wasn’t acting tough, she just was.”

‘Dukes of Hazzard’ Television Show Was Based on a Movie Released in 1975

“The Dukes of Hazzard” originally aired on CBS from 1979 until 1985. However, the inspiration for the show was created several years before the show appeared on television.

That inspiration reportedly came from a 1975 film titled “Moonrunners.” The movie was directed and written by Gy Waldron. He is the same man who went on to create “The Dukes of Hazzard.

The names of the main characters were different in the movie. Instead of the last name Duke, the family had the last name “Hagg” instead.

Here’s another fun fact: Waylon Jennings also played the balladeer in “Moonrunners” as he did in “The Dukes of Hazzard.”
