“Dukes of Hazzard” star John Schneider had many lines of dialogue across the seven seasons on the show. But one quote is his favorite. The actor revealed his favorite quote as his character Bo Duke in the series.
In a 2018 interview, Schneider reflected on his past on the show including his favorite quote as Bo Duke. To hear his favorite line, viewers have to go all the way back to the very first episode. Schneider said his favorite quote was “I choose this life, not because I don’t KNOW no better, but because I believe it IS better.”
The episode featured the Duke boys going up against the machinations of Sheriff Rosco Coltrane. Coltrane brought illegal slot machines into Hazzard county. But the Duke boys steal the machines and turn over the proceeds to the local orphanage. The Duke boys were always a bit like Robin Hood in this way, looking out for their neighbors.
Don’t Call John Schneider by His ‘Dukes of Hazzard’ Name
John Schneider may have enjoyed his time on “Dukes of Hazzard” as Bo Duke. But that’s not the only thing that the actor wants to be remembered as. In a separate interview, Schneider confessed that he has a difficult time with people referring to him as Bo Duke.
Schneider has starred in various other films and television and also had a career as a country musician as well. He felt as if referring to him by his character reduced the other accomplishments that he made during his career.
“Every time somebody starts out, ‘You know him best from ‘The Dukes of Hazzard,’ I just want to strangle them,” Schneider told Christianity Today in 2012. “I did a couple of radio interviews recently, and one guy said, ‘We got Bo Duke on the line!’ So there I am, on live radio, and I said, ‘Really? Is that right? That’s who you have on the phone right now? I’ll do ‘Yee-haw!’ for you later, but right now, let’s talk about ‘October Baby.’”
But “The Duke of Hazzard” remains one of Schneider’s most memorable roles. It cemented his place within the pop culture landscape. It was also Schneider’s breakthrough role, catapulting into a limelight that he never could’ve dreamed of as a teen. Schneider would star on the show for a total of seven seasons. He also later reunited with his castmates for two additional reunion movies in the years after the show ended.
