It’s not always easy to talk about a loved one who has cancer, but Dukes of Hazzard actor John Schneider did exactly that back in May.

Some fans out there may not know that Schneider, 61, has been through a lot since playing Bo Duke in the fan-favorite television show. Not only did he get himself through a messy divorce, but he also spent time in jail after refusing to pay his court-ordered alimony. He also saw his Louisana film studio get damaged by a flood.

You would think that all of that would be enough to test a person’s limits, right? But wait, there’s more. Schneider received the final blow when he found out that his girlfriend at the time (now wife), Alicia Allain, 56, was diagnosed with breast cancer and that it had spread to her bones.

Thankfully, Allain is now cancer-free. Schneider told Closer Weekly last month that his wife was doing much better.

“She’s doing great,” he admitted to the outlet. “She is her own biggest advocate. She still sees her doctors and she’s on the Keto for Cancer diet, but she looks at it as a maintenance program. She’s remarkable — tenacious too.”

It would seem that the Dukes of Hazzard star and his girl are confident that they can overcome even some of life’s biggest challenges. The nickname they have for each other says as much.

“That’s why we’re together. We call ourselves the team to beat.”

How Did the ‘Dukes of Hazzard’ Star and His Wife Beat Cancer?

After hearing some of the worst news possible, John Schneider and Alicia Allain didn’t just lay down and give up.

“Praying was obviously the first thing we did,” Schneider told Closer Weekly in a 2020 interview. But the persevering couple didn’t stop there. In fact, they took matters into their own hands.

“We attacked it like we attack everything else — by asking questions.”

The Dukes of Hazzard actor and his then-fiancée had a robust plan in place. Along with the traditional cancer treatment, they took part in medical therapy, switched to a low-carb ketogenic diet, and supplemented that diet with holistic minerals and CBD oil.

“I believe that the change in lifestyle gave the medicine a platform in which to work,” he continued. “If you are making the body healthy so that it can fight the cancer along with the medication, then you have a recipe for success.”

Now that she is cancer-free, the Bo Duke actor believes they are stronger as a couple. And how could they not be? He also urged those with a similar diagnosis to take an active role in developing a treatment plan that works for them.

“We’ve been through the worst news that somebody could get and came out stronger because of it.”
