‘Dukes of Hazzard’: How John Schneider, Tom Wopat Made Their First Album Together After Long Music Careers

John Schneider and Tom Wopat are famous thanks to their roles in “The Dukes of Hazzard.” Both are also famous for their singer careers.

After that popular classic television show went off the air, the two men watched their careers take different paths. However, they both always loved music. And during 2014, they joined forces once again. Was this for a special “Dukes of Hazzard” event? No, they came together to create a special Christmas album.

The album was titled “Home for Christmas.” The former “Duke boys” talked about the project with DukesCollector.com in December 2014. The interview with Larry Franks took place before the duo took the stage to perform at Joe’s Pub in New York City.

The initial question Franks had for “The Dukes of Hazzard” stars was what it was like to work together on an album for the first time. It was a different project for them as a duo again, after all.

‘Dukes of Hazzard’ Star John Schneider ‘Had a Great Time Working’ With Tom Wopat On Album

“I had a great time working with Tom,” Schneider said. “It was actually his idea. He said he wanted to do a Christmas album. And I said, ‘Really?’ And he said, ‘Yeah. I’ve got some great songs; great musicians.’”

To see if creating an album together would be feasible, these two stars of “The Dukes of Hazzard” got together for a test run.

“I came in last year in December. Just to try it out and sing a couple (of songs),” Schneider said.

According to Wopat, as part of the duo’s meeting “to try it out” they sang “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” and “Johnny It’s Cold Outside.” Unsurprisingly, things went well.

“They were great,” John Schneider, who owns a movie studio in Louisiana, said. “Then there was no question we had to do it.”

Tom Wopat also said the “Home for Christmas” album was similar in style to other solo albums he had recorded during his singing career.

“We have the same kind of configuration with eight horns and 12 strings,” Wopat, who has also had a career on the Broadway stage, added. “It swings. It’s lush. It’s beautiful. And it’s funny.”

“Yeah!” Schneider agreed.

The “Home for Christmas” album included 18 tracks. Some of the songs sung by Wopat and Schneider on it included “Christmas Time Is Here,” “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” “Sleigh Ride,” “On a Quiet Christmas Morn,” and “Silver Bells.”
