Dustin Diamond, Star of ‘Saved by the Bell,’ Gets NASCAR Honors with Custom Paint Job

Since being diagnosed with stage four cancer, tributes having been pouring in for “Saved by the Bell” alum Dustin Diamond.

On the hit television series, Diamond played Samuel “Screech” Powers, a lovable nerd who is Zach Morris’ right-hand man. Diamond earned much recognition for playing the role in a show that is still relevant decades after it ended.

Dustin Diamond went to a hospital earlier this week due to complications from his cancer diagnosis, according to his manager. The 1990’s television star is undergoing testing in a Florida hospital as medical professionals assess the severity of the situation. His manager says his health situation is serious, with the type of cancer not revealed but already stated to be in Stage 4. The tests are to determine the type of cancer, according to CNN.

Dustin Diamond’s Likeness will Appear on Race Car

In a creative measure to wish Diamond well in his treatment, NASCAR driver Josh Bilicki’s car will feature a message for Diamond. Dan Block, President of Insurance King and Dustin Diamond’s close friend, will honor him with a new wrap placed over the car. The car wrap will also pay homage to the classic television show as well.

The wrap features a “Saved by the Bell” logo and font style as well as an image of Diamond behind the driver’s side back tire. Diamond has starred in several Insurance King commercials utilizing the catchphrase “Saved by the King.”

In one such commercial, Dustin Diamond squeals his tires as he speeds past a cop who pulls him over and writes him a ticket. He opens his glove box to reveal a mountain of tickets he has received. When the cop asks how he can afford car insurance with so many speeding tickets, Diamond, in his Screech voice, says “I’m saved by the king.”

Block says the car will most likely debut for the NASCAR Cup Series later this year. Insurance King has a strong relationship with the NASCAR series, he says.

Diamond was diagnosed with stage four cancer after discovering a lump in his throat recently. He is reportedly undergoing his first round of chemotherapy this week. His mother passed away from breast cancer when he was younger. He reported feeling pain “all over his body” before being admitted into the hospital.

The actor and standup comedian is 44-years-old.
