Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Shares Preview of New NBC Sitcom ‘Young Rock’ Based on his Childhood

Box office star actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has gifted his fans and followers with the first trailer for his new NBC comedy Young Rock.

We first learned about Young Rock almost exactly a year ago, back in January of 2020. After it was reported that Young Rock had gotten a series order at NBC, we then found out the premise of the new TV show. It is set to focus on Dwayne Johnson’s childhood and his early years as a wrestler. The Rock’s life, of course, will serve as the material for the 11-episode TV show. However, he will also appear in every episode as well.

Johnson took to social media over the weekend to share the first trailer at Young Rock with his fans. Johnson also posted a heartfelt caption about the trailer, beginning with, “Ladies and gents, here’s your first look at @nbcyoungrock.”

“I really wish my dad was around to see this one. Maaaaan he would’ve been proud,” Johnson wrote on Instagram. “And yes, I was clearly kicking puberty’s ass at 15yrs old and becoming a tequila tycoon by the time I was 10 😂🥃🤦🏽‍♂️.”

Johnson added, “I can’t wait to make you and your families laugh a little and share some life lessons I’ve learned along the way.”

First Look at ‘Young Rock’ Trailer with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson

If the first Young Rock trailer was any indication, the show promises lots of warmth and comedy. We get flashes of Johnson at different stages in his life — as a 10-year-old, a 15-year-old, and as a college student attending the University of Miami.

It’s also clear Young Rock will be focusing a large portion of its runtime on revisiting Johnson’s relationship with his father, pro wrestler Rocky Johnson. Flashbacks of the star actor show him admiring his father winning matches inside the ring. And, as if all of that wasn’t enough to make you tune in, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson himself will have various cutscenes in the show with his own commentary about the events of his life.

Adrian Groulx, Bradley Constant, and Uli Latukefu (Alien Covenant) star in the show as Johnson at his different ages. Groulx will play Johnson at 10 years old, Constant will play Johnson as a teenager, and Latukefu will play Johnson during his college years.

Joining these three actors are Ana Tuisila, who plays Johnson’s grandmother Lia Maivia. Meanwhile, Joseph Lee Anderson plays Johnson’s father, Rocky Johnson, and Stacey Leilua, plays Johnson’s mother, Ata Johnson. In addition to co-starring in the show, Johnson also serves as an executive producer under his Seven Bucks banner.

Young Rock premieres on NBC on February 16.
