Holidays and candy tend to go hand-in-hand.

For Halloween, massive buckets of candy sit near the front door in their “fun-sized” versions. Christmas is full of candy canes, gumdrops, and Santa-shaped chocolates. Even the Fourth of July is marked with red, white, and blue gummies and candies.

Easter is the same. Jelly beans are used to create trails to Easter baskets or are just eaten on their own. Likely one of the most controversial candies ever, the Peep, comes in a variety of colors for the holiday. Chocolate-shaped bunnies and Cadbury Eggs all fly off the shelves and end up in Easter baskets all over the country.

Candy on Easter is a tradition for a lot of people. However, what is the most popular candy that people buy for the national holiday?

According to People magazine, Easter candy is close to the production level of Halloween candy. They are the two most popular holidays in regard to purchasing a variety of different candies and chocolate.

There are about 5.5 million Peeps made each day and 500 million Cadbury Eggs are also made each year. Any kind of chocolate egg and Peeps are two of the most infamous Easter candy selections.

An astounding 16 billion jelly beans leave U.S. factories and end up in stores each year as well. Americans ate enough jelly beans last year to actually circle the Earth more than five times. Lastly, 91 million chocolate bunnies are also sold in the U.S. each year.

The U.S. takes Easter candy and Easter candy sales pretty seriously.

Easter Candy Popularity by State

Some Easter candy is either absolutely adored or absolutely hated. Jelly beans, Cadbury Eggs, and Peeps are three popular candies that fit into this category.

According to a study from Zippia, there are eight states in the U.S. that have a lot of peeps that love to eat Peeps. Idaho is at the top of the list in terms of the Peeps fan club.

The study also found that Cadbury Creme Eggs are the most popular candy eggs, but candy eggs, in general, are very popular. Several states also enjoy Starburst jelly beans specifically. Some other candies that came out on top in different states are caramel eggs, chocolate bunnies, white chocolate eggs, and normal jelly beans.

Boiled eggs, an Easter classic but not a candy, are a top Easter treat for many states as well.

Peeps will always create a divide between people. However, iconic shapes (from bunnies to chicks) and flavors, always keep the candy as a trademark, specifically during the Easter season.

In the past, Peeps have remained near the top for their unique flavors they roll out every year. That includes marshmallow flavored cereal, cotton candy, orange sherbert, and even pancakes and syrup. According to Popculture in 2019, more than 66% of parents put together an Easter basket filled with goodies for their kids. Peeps are a top choice for those baskets.
