Eddie Van Halen will go down in history as the legendary musician behind Van Halen and as one of the all-time greatest guitar players.
Certainly, that’s a fairly large shadow to live under.
Recently, Eddie Van Halen’s son, Wolfgang, has fired back at a disrespectful Twitter user. The critic tweeted and said Eddie “taught you better than that” in a now-deleted tweet.
Wolf responded to the social media user. He wrote, “Also, I love where we’re at with internet, where you can just find ANYONE on social media just to say… ‘Hi there stranger, I’m not too familiar with you, but I don’t like you and your deceased father is probably disappointed in you.’ Isn’t technology awesome?”
Wolf is proving that he has one thing in common with his father, besides musical talent. That is, he isn’t afraid to speak his mind.
In an interview with Billboard, Van Halen spoke very candidly about some of his bandmates, including David Lee Roth and Michael Anthony.
“How can I put this: Roth’s perception of himself is different than who he is in reality. We’re not in our 20s anymore. We’re in our 60s. Act like you’re 60. I stopped coloring my hair, because I know I’m not going to be young again,” Van Halen said.
He also claimed that he taught “every note Mike ever played” on the bass. The group certainly had its differences.
Wolf Van Halen New Music
Instead of the guitar, Wolf Van Halen is known for his ability to shred as a bassist. Wolfgang is the child of Eddie Van Halen and actress Valerie Bertinelli.
He is the former bassist for Van Halen from 2006 to 2020. His style is considered a rhythm bassist. This meaning, he combines rhythm guitar and bass together to create a unique sound.
Wolf originally started out as a drummer when he was 9. He then moved on to guitar and bass. He can also play the keys, which he learned mostly by ear.
However, Van Halen is no longer together after Eddie passed away in October 2020. Now, Wolf started his own band called Mammoth WVH in November 2020.
On February 11, 2021, Wolfgang revealed that he would be releasing his highly anticipated solo album on June 11. His band consists of guitar, bass, drums, and vocals, however, it’s Wolf doing it all.
He recently released his song “Distance,” which he wrote about his father. The main mantra is that “No matter what the distance is, I will be with you.”
“I think it’s almost like a mantra when you lose someone that plays a large role in your life. No matter what the distance is, I will be with you. No matter what the distance is, I’ll be okay. That’s kinda my mantra when I think about my dad,” Wolf Van Halen said on the Today show before performing the song.
Eddie and his son Wolf had a close relationship all the way up until his death. He got to hear his son’s touching song before passing away from cancer at the age of 65.
