Eddie Van Halen’s son Wolfgang would love to be able to play music with his father again. Eddie passed away on Oct.6 following a battle with throat cancer. On Instagram, Wolf shared a video of his father answering questions at a convention.
A fan asked Eddie, “My question is: Of all the deceased musicians out there that are no longer around, could pick one to play with [and] who would that be?”
“I’d love to jam with my father again,” the late musician replied.
Wolf also included two black and white photos in the post. In the first, a young Eddie played the piano alongside his father Jan on the saxophone. In the second, Eddie and Wolf played guitar together with Eddie affectionately patting his son on the head and laughing.
In 2006, Wolf joined his father and uncle in the rock band Van Halen. He played bass replacing long-time member Michael Anthony. Together, the band produced two albums and last toured in 2015.
Eddie Van Halen’s son wrote a tribute to him
Eddie passed away at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, CA on Oct. 6. The Van Halen guitarist battled throat cancer off and on for more than a decade. His son, Wolf, was by his side as was his brother, Alex, and wife, Janie. After the musician’s passing, Wolf went on Twitter to express his heartbreak and grief.
He composed a tribute to the late rock star.
“I can’t believe I’m having to write this, but my father, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, has lost his long and arduous battle with cancer this morning. He was the best father I could ever ask for. Every moment I’ve shared with him on and off stage was a gift. My heart is broken and I don’t think I’ll ever fully recover from this loss. I love you so much, Pop.”
