Ellen DeGeneres has been getting criticized online after admitting that she drove her wife, Portia de Rossi, to the hospital after having three “weed drinks.”

Ellen DeGeneres made an appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel Live! 4/20 show on Tuesday. It was there that the popular daytime talk-show host discussed an intense night that took place back in March. She says that she woke up to find her wife in a lot of pain on the bathroom floor of their home. That was after DeGeneres had consumed not one — but three Cann drinks and some melatonin. She then had to drive de Rossi to the emergency room for an appendectomy.

“I drank one, and I didn’t feel anything, so I drank three, and then I took two melatonin sleep pills. And I’m lying in bed, and I realize [Portia’s] not in bed,” DeGeneres explained. “She’s moaning. I get out of bed, and she’s on the ground on all fours, and I said, ‘You’re not OK.’ She goes, ‘I’m OK.’ I said, “No unless you’re playing Twister by yourself, you’re not OK.’ So I rushed her to the emergency room.”

“You drove her yourself? the 53-year-old Kimmel asks.

“I did,” DeGeneres admits. “I mean, I kicked in, like my adrenaline, because I just had to rush her there. It’s probably not sage, I shouldn’t be saying any of this.”

Ellen DeGeneres went on to say that while she isn’t typically a fan of marijuana, the 63-year-old was recommended Cann Social Tonics by her friend Chelsea Handler.

“Chelsea Handler told me about these weed drinks. They’re called Cann, and they have CBD or THC — I don’t know what the good thing is,” she says.

Critics On Social Media Fire Shots at Ellen DeGeneres

While on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Ellen DeGeneres and Kimmel joked around about her recent experience with “weed drinks” aka Cann Social Tonics. And while parts of her story were humorous, some users on social media are criticizing the talk-show host for what happened, citing it as an example of her privilege.

“She could’ve killed someone,” one user wrote online. “I’m so sick of her entitled a–.”

According to Vana — the company that produces Cann Social Tonics — their marijuana-infused drinks range in potency. Some of them start at two milligrams of THC combined with four milligrams of CBD. Others contain five milligrams of solely THC.

But in the end, the 48-year-old de Rossi was released from the hospital the day after her procedure. Ellen DeGeneres has since said that she is feeling much better now.
