Football legend Herschel Walker is speaking out about the civil unrest in the United States. The former NFL player took to social media earlier this week to call on local leaders to put an end to the rioting and looting across the country.

“I’ve watched a lot of these beautiful cities being destroyed by people rioting and I saw all these local leaders that won’t step to the plate to protect their citizens or their citizens’ businesses,” Walker said in a video posted to Twitter.

“So I’m going to step up to the plate and become a local leader in a sense that I want to put in a mandate that anyone arrested during a riot and they’re not from that city, they don’t have a resident in that city or that town, should be arrested and get federal time,” he said.

Walker shared the video with the caption: “Outsiders coming to Riot into other communities should get Federal Time for destroying lives and businesses!”

Herschel Walker Speaks Out at Last Month’s RNC

This marks one of several times Herschel Walker voiced his political opinions in recent weeks. At the end of last month, Walker made a speech at the Republican National Convention. While there, he blasted his critics that call him out for being friends with President Donald Trump.

“I take it as a personal insult that people would think I’ve had a 37-year friendship with a racist,” Walker said. “It hurt my soul to hear the terrible names that people call Donald. The worst one is ‘racist.’”

Furthermore, Walker adds, “People who think that don’t know what they are talking about. Growing up in the Deep South, I’ve seen racism up close. I know what it is. And it isn’t Donald Trump.”

Walker then defended the President saying he deeply cares about the country.

“Just because someone loves and respects the flag, our National Anthem, and our country doesn’t mean they don’t care about social justice. I care about all of those things, and so does Donald Trump,” Walker said.

“He shows how much he cares about social justice and the Black community through his actions,” Walker said. “And his actions speak louder than any stickers or slogans on a jersey.”
