Kathy Griffin, a popular comedian both on TV and in comedy albums, recently shared that she had been diagnosed with lung cancer. She now needs half of her lung removed. Many fans and celebrities, including Pauley Perrette, are giving her words of encouragement during this tough time.

Griffin has recorded a number of standup comedy specials for both HBO and Bravo. She has had a controversial career as a comedian and shared she’s been banned from a number of shows over her decades in the industry.

She is infamous for the 2017 photoshoot that featured her holding a mask that looked like a bloodied Donald Trump. Since then, according to ABC News, Kathy Griffin has been battling a painkiller addiction and has unfortunately attempted suicide several times.

Recently, the comedian has gone through an intense surgery and confirmed to her fans that it went well. She was getting half of her left lung removed and also shared that she has never smoked before. Doctors are optimistic that the comedian will make a full recovery. It was stage one cancer and was contained in one lung rather than both.

Since then, former “NCIS” star Pauley Perrette voiced her support for Griffin on her Twitter account.

Perrette wrote, “Love my pal @kathygriffin. She’s smart, kind, speaks her mind and stands up for Women, LGBT etc … Prayers for my beloved! #KickCancersAss You’re on my prayer finger! (Where I put initial of my main prayer by my cross) Love you sis! #PrayForKathy You GOT THIS BABE!!”

The actress even posted a photo of her initials right alongside her cross tattoo. In the past, Perrette appeared on Griffin’s self-titled talk show with Kunal Nayyar and Jaime Pressly. The two are longtime friends.

She was one of the many people that publically supported Pauley Perrette when she decided to leave “NCIS” back in 2018.

Both Perrette and Griffin are avid LGBTQ activists. Griffin actively supports same-sex marriage as well as repealing “Don’t ask, don’t tell.” She is also a supporter of Aid for AIDS annual fundraiser “Best in Drag Show.” She would also include footage of rallies back when she had her reality show, “Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List.”

Perrette and Musical Career

Pauley Perrette was made famous when she played the fan-favorite goth forensic scientist on “NCIS” for years.

However, she has had a number of smaller roles over the years too. While she was looking for an acting gig, Perrette was also a part of an all-woman rock band called Lo-Ball.

“The band concept was started by J.C. and Claudia a couple of years ago. They wanted to build an outstanding all-female rock and roll band to prove that girls rock just as hard as boys. Lissa came next, then Katie and me,” Perrette said in an interview with Dave Schwartz in 2001.

Her band performed all across the U.S. including the Bryant Park fashion show and the Mercury Lounge in New York. The band’s song “Can’t Get Me Down” also appeared in the cult-classic 2001 film starring Reese Witherspoon, “Legally Blonde.”
