Frasier fans always hum along to the theme song. They know the words. But we need to call into KACL to find out what’s going on with the tossed salad and scrambled eggs.

So Frasier Crane, are you listening?

Frasier, a spinoff of Cheers, ran from 1993 to 2004. It was one of the best shows in TV history as evidenced by its 37 Emmy wins. The show won best comedy series for five straight years. Ally McBeal finally ended the streak in 1999.

And each episode, we heard Kelsey Grammer, who played Frasier for 20 years, sing the theme song.

Bruce Miller was tasked with writing the theme song. And show creators were clear in what they didn’t want. Don’t mention anything specific to the show and what it’s about. So the song came out in code.

Frasier Words Make Sense When You Understand the Code

In an interview in 2012, Miller explained the song.

“I immediately wrote the song/music itself,” Miller said. “But then I needed a lyric that would work. So I called my friend Darryl Phinnesse, who is really talented and really smart. I gave him the idea of the show, and he called back with the idea of “Tossed Salads and Scrambled Eggs.”

“At first I was a bit baffled myself until he explained that these were things that were “mixed up”….like Frasier Crane’s patients.”

Makes more sense now. There is more code. So here’s more from Miller:

“Hey baby I hear the blues a-callin”-refers to patients with troubles calling into the radio show

“Tossed Salads and Scrambled Eggs”

“But maybe I seem a bit confused”-Frasier’s personality was a bit????

“Maybe, but I got you pegged”-Frasier does understand these people and helps them.

“But I don’t know what to do with those Tossed Salads and Scrambled Eggs”-it’s a tough business….gotta deal with these “crazies” every day.

“They’re calling again”-oh, oh….should be self explanatory.

Frasier star Kelsey Grammer sang the theme. The producers requested Grammer sing it. Miller said he wanted Mel Torme. After all, he was known as the “Velvet Fog.” But it also wasn’t a stretch to have Grammer perform the theme. Grammer, who studied at the Julliard School, started singing when he was a kid.

Maybe Tossed Salad and Scrambled Eggs will be the theme music for the Frasier reboot. Grammer announced news of the revamped series last month. It’s set for 2022 and will be part of the lineup on Paramount+, the new streaming service.

Here’s Grammer performing the Frasier theme. Enjoy.
