Ready to speak her mind about Hollywood, Geena Davis called out the movie industry about the lack of opportunities specifically for older actresses.

While reflecting on her role in the now 30-year-old film Thelma & Louise, Geena Davis spoke to CBS News about the roles that she has received while aging. “I mean, if you look at people in my age range, they’re so few that are really getting, that are really working steadily, you know?” The actress states.

Geena then says, “I’m working to get more female roles in movies and TV, and at some point [my age] will actually benefit me personally. But so far, it hasn’t.”

Davis points out there are just very few roles for those her age or older. So the odds of her or anyone else in her age group getting long-term or successful roles are bad. Davis also refers to herself as an “impatient optimist” and jokes that her headstone will read, “I wish I had spent more time at work.”

Geena Davis then says to have more blockbusters with women in the lead roles is definitely happening more and that is very exciting. She also mentions her role in the classic baseball movie A League of Their Own. “I didn’t know how to play baseball or any sport and I really was not athletic as a kid. I was always the tallest, tallest kid. Not just tallest girl, but didn’t want to try anything physical in case people would laugh at me.”

Geena goes on to add that she would constantly be asked to be on a girl’s basketball team. “I said, ‘No, no, but I don’t know how to play basketball.’ And they were like, ‘Just stand there. You’re the tallest girl anywhere. Just be on the team!’ And I’m, ‘No, no, no, no, no.’”
