Thanks to her role as Mary Ann Summers on “Gilligan’s Island,” there are generations of fans who view Dawn Wells as a person who deserves to be loved.

And, during a 2015 interview, the actress talked about feeling the adoration from fans.

Interviewer Kevin Renick with ZacharyMule.com prompted this discussion by saying the following to Wells: “… Any look at the internet shows how much fans love you. And you’ve managed to stay so positive and accessible through the years. Not every star does.”

In response, the “Gilligan’s Island” star said that the love she received from fans over the decades was a very positive thing in her life. And, as she humorously noted, most people want to feel accepted and praised for the work they have done.

“It’s not very hard to be loved,” she reportedly said with a laugh. “I certainly appreciate the admiration. …”

Sadly, Dawn Wells passed away on December 30, 2020 due to COVID-19.

Dawn Wells Said She Feels ‘A Connection’ With Fans of ‘Gilligan’s Island’

And, while it is very nice to be praised for the work you do, how fans feel about her registers a little more deeply for this “Gilligan’s Island” cast member. Dawn Wells is more than “flattered” by their love. She feels it gives her a close relationship with them.

“If you were a secretary somewhere, and somebody was saying, ‘You did the best job, or you wrote the best blah blah blah, you’d sort of feel flattered,” Wells said. “I do feel flattered, but I also feel a connection. I guess, you know, when you find that many people that … fathers with kids, and passing that down, there must be something connecting us somehow.”

Being in a profession that allows her to meet and connect with so many people is something this “Gilligan’s Island” actress might have been preparing for years before she became famous even if she wasn’t aware of it.

“And I love people,” Wells also said. “Maybe it’s the way I was raised. I don’t know. I wouldn’t change my life.”

Interestingly, during the interview Wells said she wasn’t sure what made her portrayal of Mary Ann so popular with fans of “Gilligan’s Island.”

“Well I wonder, was it the dialogue?” she said. “Was it my presenting the dialogue? Was it just because I was cast as that character? I don’t know. You can’t put your finger on it.”

Also during the interview, the beloved Dawn Wells also offered some helpful advice to readers. This advice had to do with making it through adversity and finding your place.

“… That’s what I always say, you know, ‘why give up?'” Wells shared. “Everybody has something to offer in this world, you just gotta do something about it!”
