Before she became famous for playing the role of the movie star Ginger Grant on “Gilligan’s Island,” actress Tina Louise was a movie star. She rose to fame thanks to her work in the 1958 film “God’s Little Acre.”

According to an interview she gave during 2019, famous director Blake Edwards wanted Louise for a film he was working on. Movie fans will know Edwards as the director of “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” This famous film starred Audrey Hepburn and was based on a story by Truman Capote. Edwards also directed several “Pink Panther” movies.

Edwards was given an Honorary Academy Award in 2004 as recognition for all he accomplished during his career in Hollywood. So, the chance to appear in one of his films was a big opportunity for Tina Louise at the time.

However, according to the actress, there were individuals who had power over her career who did not want her to work on the film Blake Edwards was creating.

“I had a three picture contract with the producers of ‘God’s Little Acre’ and they did not like this new story for me. They thought it was not up to par for me,” Louise said during the interview.

The producers were willing to let the “Gilligan’s Island” actress appear in the project if she was paid $25,000.

“I was offered much more money than they were paying me at the time, or anybody had ever paid me. But he said only if they would pay me $25,000 more, would he allow me to do it, or encourage me to do it,” Louise recounted. “But they did not agree to it and so I didn’t do it.”

‘Gilligan’s Island’ Actress Shares Words of Wisdom During Interview

One can’t help but wonder what Blake Edwards film the director wanted Tina Louise for. The actress said she might share more information about this incident at some point. But, she might not. We will just have to wait and see.

“… I’m not going to give you all the details because who knows?” she said. “One day I might write a book … I just like to live one day at a time the way I want to. I don’t know if that presses your button or not, or if that’s what you want.

Also during the interview, the “Gilligan’s Island” star also offered some wise life advice to readers. She shared this advice as she talked about the movie “Tapestry.”

“So you just have to deal with the day and you just have to pick yourself up and not stay down. Each person has to make their own effort to not dwell on the negative and find ways to deal and make the day positive,” Tina Louise said.

“Forgiveness in certain situations is very important. It’s not easy, but we have to work at it because everybody’s very complicated,” she added. “So I think that the main lesson is you just can’t let yourself stay down. You just have to come out of it.”
