Former NFL star and current “Good Morning America” host Michael Strahan is days away from his upcoming space journey.
December 9 is the big day for Michael Strahan and he seems rather excited for this once-in-a-lifetime adventure. It will be billionaire Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin organization that will take the NFL Hall of Famer high above the earth. With his highly anticipated launch into the stratosphere quickly approaching, Michael Strahan says he will be taking every precaution he possibly can. He stopped by “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” to talk about what he expects to get out of the flight. Being his usual charming self, Strahan says he will be well-prepared for any and every scenario.
“I had to fly the other day, and I’m looking at the thing and it tells you that you’re 43,000 feet and I’m going, ‘Man, this is way up here,” he says. Look at this!’ And then I realize this is nothing. So I might wear a diaper!”
Michael Strahan says he got to witness firsthand the first Blue Origin takeoff and landing. The event left a big impression on the television host and he will now await his turn to blast off into space in just 10 days.
“It was the most amazing thing I’ve seen outside of childbirth, and it made you emotional to see it,” he says. “It completely changed my mind about why, if I would want to do it, the reasoning behind it, why other people want to do it. Then I, pretty much, a few months later or so, got a call saying, ‘Do you want to go up?'”
Michael Strahan says one of the reasons he is so excited about the flight is that he will get to share it with watchers of his show.
Michael Strahan is Preparing For Upcoming Space Trip
Visiting outer space is a dream to many that will soon become a reality to the 50-year-old Strahan. He is excited to share the experience with “Good Morning America” viewers once he touches back down to earth.
“It gives you a different perspective, and I think that’s what I’m looking for, to see a different perspective on, almost like an out-of-body experience of looking at planet Earth, where we live from outside of planet Earth,” he says. “And kind of understanding the bigger picture of the planet and the bigger picture of why we’re here. For me to be on GMA every morning, to be able to come out and express that to people from someone that they see every morning and who had the opportunity to do that. And not just someone who goes up and they come down and they do a thing here or there. But to be there every day, being able to explain this, that has my curiosity piqued.”
