‘Golden Girls’ Themed Cruise to Set Sail in 2022, Complete With Cheesecake & ‘The Rusty Anchor’ Karaoke

Fans of the classic sitcom, “Golden Girls” are all-aboard for a new attraction based on the 1980s show.

Fans can literally sail away on a cruise ship that is all things “Golden Girls.”

Here’s everything you need to know about the inclusive “Golden Girls” cruise experience.

What is the Event?

According to People, the experience is a five-night cruise on a large cruise ship. The ship will leave from Miami (the center point of “Golden Girls”) and will then visit Key West and Cozumel along the way.

Besides starting in Miami, Florida, the experience has a lot of nods to the famous show. There will be a look-a-like contest to see who has the greatest resemblance to Dorothy, Rose, Blanche, and Sophia.

The cruise includes cheesecake as well as an epic karaoke night at The Rusty Anchor. Fans of the show will recognize this as the name of Blanche’s favorite bar. In an entertaining episode called “Journey to the Center of Attention,” Blanche gets upset with Dorothy when she becomes the center of attention amongst the patrons at “her” bar.

The “Golden Girls” cast ate over 100 cheesecakes during the show’s run. Cheesecake was the center of all the women’s most serious conversations.

The five-night stay also has a themed bar crawl and a St. Olaf dance party as well as an Ugel and Flugel game. There will be countless other activities to fill up the five days. From karaoke to trivia to food, it’s a “Golden Girls” fan’s dream.

When is the ‘Golden Girls’ Cruise?

Due to COVID-19, dates have been pushed back for a number of entertainment activities. Right before the pandemic, the first round of the cruise adventure happened in February 2020 aboard the Celebrity Infinity. These tickets went on sale in 2019 and sold with record-breaking speed.

According to the Golden Fans at Sea website, the next cruise will take place from January 3 to January 8, 2022. The April 2021 event was canceled and pushed back to 2022.

There will be around 1,000 people aboard the ship. People have to book through Flip Phone Events or Cindy Levine Dream Vacations in order to get the full experience aboard the ship.

The cheapest package for a cabin on the cruise is about $1,237.03.

Who Started the Event?

Chad Kampe is the organizer of the cruise and works for Flip Phone Events. He has been running different “Golden Girls” themed bar crawls over the years.

“The ‘Golden Girls’ [trip] was inspired by my two favorite things, ‘Golden Girls’ and cruising. It seemed like a perfect fit, as the ‘Golden Girls’ lived in Miami and you could see them all jumping aboard a cruise boat. There is the one episode where they go to a tropical island and it’s a complete disaster,” Kampe told Good Morning America.

The cruise is a great opportunity for super fans to meet each other. As Kampe puts it, “the most exciting part of the cruise will be the new friends everyone makes.”
