In a fitting tribute to the late actor, Chadwick Boseman won a Golden Globes on Sunday (Feb. 28). He won the award for “Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama” for his performance in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.”

Accepting the award on Boseman’s behalf was his widow, Simone Ledward Boseman. And in accepting the award, she gave a very moving tribute to her late husband and “Black Panther” star.

“(Chadwick) would thank God. He would thank his parents. He would thank his ancestors for their guidance and their sacrifices,” Simone said via video stream Sunday. “(Chadwick) would thank his incredible team. … He would thank his team on set for this film. … “

Simone went on to say that Chadwick Boseman would have used the platform given to him thanks to the Golden Globe award to do good.

“He would say something beautiful, something inspiring, something that would amplify that little voice inside of all of us that tells you you can, that tells you to keep going, that calls you back to what you are meant to be doing at this moment in history,” Simone also said. “He would thank Mr. George C. Wolfe, Mr. Denzel Washington, lots of people at Netflix. He would thank Ms. Viola Davis …”

Celebrities Moved Listening to Widow of Chadwick Boseman Accept His Golden Globe Award

As Simone paid tribute to her husband, the broadcast cut away to show other celebrities. They were obviously moved listening to her talk about Chadwich Boseman – and rightly so.

Simone also encouraged everyone listening to her to remember what is important in life.

“And, I don’t have his words, but we have to take all the moments to celebrate those we love,” she added. “So, thank you, (Hollywood Foreign Press Association) for this opportunity to do exactly that. And, hun, you keep ’em coming. Thank you.”

Chadwick Boseman passed away on Aug. 28, 2020. He had been diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer during 2016. In the years after his diagnosis, he fought the disease. However, it advanced to stage 4 and eventually led to his death at only 43 years of age.
