‘Gomer Pyle’: Why Jim Nabors Said He ‘Never Thought’ He Would Record 40+ Music Albums

Jim Nabors, who played Gomer Pyle for a total of eight seasons between two shows, was incredibly talented. His career on screen as the character got its own spinoff show because he was loved so much by fans.

Because he was so talented in his role as Gomer Pyle that his acting career was hindered by it. However, Nabors wasn’t only successful on the television screen. He was also an incredible musician and did outstandingly well for himself in that regard.

In fact, his songs were so popular that he was able to have a great couple career in the music industry. He was able to have 12 songs chart on Billboard’s Hot 200. Nabors’ first album was released in 1965, called Shazam! and was about his show, Gomer Pyle, USMC. His last album came out in 2004 and was entitled, More Songs Of Inspiration.

Arguably, the Gomer Pyle, USMC actor’s musical talents hit the mainstream The Andy Griffith Show. While he was making money via singing and got his entertainment start on stage, it wasn’t one of his renown talents. During the February 24, 1964 episode called “The Song Festers,” Nabors first showed off his singing voice.

From there, he ran with his ability.

During an interview from 2008, the Gomer Pyle, USMC actor talked about his musical success. He explains how he never thought that music would be part of his life. But, when it did become a big part of his person, he embraced it completely.

“I never thought I’d be a singer, which is why it’s still amazing to me that I’ve ended up recording more than 40 albums. But I’m getting up there in years, which is why it feels like it’s time to pack it in permanently.”
