‘Gomer Pyle, USMC’ Star Jim Nabors Was Once Attacked by a Woman With Razors Attached to Her Fingers

Jim Nabors starred in Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. for five seasons after earning his own show. The character was taken from The Andy Griffith Show. Nonetheless, the late Nabors brought a lot of attention to the U.S. Marine Corps.

In the late 1960s, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo was taking place in honor of the Marine Corps. Nabors was invited to the show as a show of their appreciation for the Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. star. But, Nabors was in for an unexpected shock while he was at the show.

During the event, Nabors performed for the roughly 60,000 people in the crowd. After a rousing speech, he was given a huge standing applause. Afterward, he was then taken off the field, escorted by Marines in an orderly formation.

While he was walking out, people were doing all they could to reach out and touch him. People were vigorously thanking the Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. star for his work. He did his best to acknowledge as many people as possible.

One woman stood out above the rest. As he was pushing his way through, he spotted a woman pushing through the throngs of people while crying. So, being the good person that Nabors is, he reached out to connect with her.

However, when she was within a few feet of the star of Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C., it was apparent that she was exceptionally angry. The Honolulu Civic Beat details the surreal incident he had with the woman.

“She swung one of her hands toward his face. There were razor blades somehow attached to the end of her fingers. Nabors raised his arms to deflect the blow. The razor blades sliced into the skin of one of his arms, leaving blood streaming down it.”

Thankfully, one of the Marines standing next to Nabors took swift and decisive action. He jumped in and punched the woman, immediately giving Nabors time to escape. Others rushed the Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. star to his dressing room.

While in the dressing room, medics cleaned him up and tended to his wounds. Even though it must have been a traumatizing experience, the culprit was never apprehended. Thankfully, Nabors was no worse for the wear and could carry on with his acting career.

It is safe to say that the Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C star was lucky to come away with so few injuries. The only lasting effects were that he had a fear of large crowds for a while after.
