‘Good Morning America’ Host Robin Roberts Taking Break from Show

“Good Morning America” host Robin Roberts has announced that she is taking a break from her duties on the ABC morning show.

Roberts, according to an article from Pop Culture, let faithful viewers of the show on Thursday know that she’d be stepping away for a few weeks.

The veteran broadcaster, who got her start with ESPN before moving over to ABC, reportedly has plans to simply take some time off.

Robin Roberts has had a busy summer, which saw her guest host “Jeopardy!” for a week in July. While some people might want to connect Roberts’ departure to now-former “Jeopardy!” host Mike Richards leaving as host on Friday, don’t rush off to that conclusion.

She gave no clue in announcing her break that hosting some of the game show’s episodes are going to happen.

Robin Roberts, who has survived a battle with cancer in her life, appears to simply want some downtime. ABC will keep her spot on “Good Morning America” secure as that morning show continues to roll along with her fellow hosts, George Stephanopoulos and Michael Strahan.

While no specific date was given for her return, Roberts simply said that she would return to the show in a few weeks.

Robin Roberts Called Hosting Game Show Was On Her ‘Bucket List’

In looking back on her time as a guest host on “Jeopardy!” this summer, Robin Roberts recognized how much it meant to her and her life.

Roberts said playing that host role was on her “bucket list” and she wouldn’t dream of turning it down.

“Who wouldn’t want to guest host Jeopardy!’?” she asked during an interview. “It’s on the ‘bucket list,’ you go ‘check.’ It was a great honor, and I couldn’t say no. Didn’t want to say no.”

Being on the show itself wasn’t a new experience. Roberts had been on “Celebrity Jeopardy!” and she also met late host Alex Trebek several times. Trebek died after battling pancreatic cancer in November 2020.

“I just want to bring a little bit of Alex, just a little bit,” Roberts said. “Can’t be him, no one can be him, but I just want to bring a little spirit that he brought each and every time he was here in this studio.”

A few months before stepping on stage as guest host of “Jeopardy!”, Roberts recalled her time on “Celebrity Jeopardy!” as a contestant.

“I knew I was not destined to be a guest host because I was on ‘Celebrity Jeopardy!’”, Roberts said in an interview with Newsweek. “I was so bad as a guest, that I think that if I had been on the list, that anybody who remembers me from being on the celebrity show, they knew that.”
