by Courtney Blackann

For fans of ‘9-to-5,’ you’re about to get a whole lot of nostalgia. The Netflix show ‘Grace and Frankie’ announced Dolly Parton will guest star in the final season, bringing the crew back together once again. Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin will have their third counterpart back with Parton. The three starred in ‘9-to-5’ when it was released in 1980.

The film was a smash in the box office grossing over $100 million and finding its way into hearts everywhere. Now, the three working ladies will have a chance to reunite onscreen in what is sure to be a hilarious tale. Producers of the Netflix show are keeping things hush-hush, however. So until the episode actually drops, we won’t have any clues about what role Parton will play.

The show is currently in its seventh and final season. With 94 episodes, ‘Grace and Frankie” is officially Netflix’s longest-running original. The 16-episode season is separated into two parts with the last 12 episodes due out in 2022.

Though it’s nearing its end, ‘Grace and Frankie’ has been wildly successful – and hilarious – using a single camera to film. Producers of the show said the finality of it is bittersweet.

“We are both delighted and heartbroken that ‘Grace and Frankie’ will be back for its seventh, though final, season,” Fonda and Tomlin said in a joint statement, via TV Line. “We’re so grateful that our show has been able to deal with issues that have really connected to our grand generation. And their kids, and amazingly their kids as well. We’ll miss these two old gals, Grace and Frankie, as much as many of their fans will, but we’ll still be around. We’ve outlasted so many things — just hope we don’t outlast the planet.”

Dolly Parton Always Wanted to Guest Star on ‘Grace and Frankie’

At least before the show ends, Parton will get to team up with her old pals for a memorable episode. It’s something she’s wanted to do for ‘years.’ In an interview with Lorraine Kelly about the opportunity to work on the show.

“I have been trying to do ‘Grace and Frankie’ for years,” Dolly Parton says during the interview. “We worked so well on ‘9 to 5’ and it’s a crazy wonderful show.”

She went on to say:

“We have been trying to write me in somehow, so when it is safe to actually do a production, I will probably get around to doing that,” Parton says.

‘Grace and Frankie’ stars Fonda and Tomlin who become friends when their husbands fall in love with each other. The two lean on each other as they tough it out and get into some tricky situations over the following years. The show is available to stream on Netflix.
