For several years, drummer Matt Sorum was a key member of the famous rock band Guns N’ Roses. However, he was not asked to take part in the band’s 2016 reunion tour.

Put yourself in his shoes for a moment. You wouldn’t want to hear such news from a group you gave years of your life to. You would most likely feel angry. And sad. And frustrated. You might also feel several other emotions.

Five years after he was left out with that reunion tour, Matt Sorum is speaking out about what it was like to be left out of that endeavor. According to Tone Deaf, Sorum was the drummer for Guns N’ Roses from 1990 to 1994.

Before the 2016 tour kicked off, Sorum was informed that Frank Ferrer would be playing drums for the band instead. This news came after he had been touring south American with Slash and Duff.

During this 2021 interview with Tone Deaf, it is clear that Matt Sorum has had time to reflect on what went down in 2016. He said he has accepted what happened with Guns N’ Roses years ago. And he said he doesn’t regret being part of the famous group.

“I’ve come to terms with the fact that they’re doing their own thing, and I’m doing mine. I can’t say that when it went down, I was completely happy with the circumstances. At the same time, I feel really good about my time in the band,” Sorum explained.

Drummer Matt Sorum Said He Guessed that Axl Rose’s Loyalty to Frank Ferrer Kept Him Out of 2016 Reunion Tour

As to why Frank Ferrer was chosen to be the drummer for the 2016 Guns N’ Roses reunion tour is something Matt Sorum can really only guess at. However, he has said that he feels like the decision had something to do with the relationship between Axl Rose, the band’s lead singer, and Ferrer.

“I think Axl is a loyal guy. He likes his band he’s had for a long time. He didn’t look at it that way. … If anyone in that band is loyal, it’s probably him. He was like, ‘I’m going to bring my guy (Frank Ferrer). If I get Slash, that’s cool. If I get Duff, that’s cool too. And that’s enough.’ That’s how it went down, and that’s what they’re doing,” drummer Matt Sorum also said.

Guns N’ Roses Released New Song in August 2021

Fans of Guns N’ Roses received some very good news during August 2021. At that time the famous rock band released their first new song in more than 10 years. The new single was titled, “Absurd.”

However, there was speculation from some fans that “Absurd” was just a new version of their unreleased song, “Silkworms.” This was a track that the group did perform during live shows. However, it did not appear on their 2008 album “Chinese Democracy.”
