During an appearance on the Kelly Clarkson Show, Gwen Stefani says she’s disappointed she doesn’t have a video of her fiancé, Blake Shelton’s, proposal.
Stefani says Shelton proposed during a trip to Oklahoma when close family members were all in town. However, Stefani reveals, “No one knew [about the proposal.] My dad knew because, on my birthday, Blake showed him the ring and told him was going to do it. But no one else knew.”
Because no one knew about the proposal, no one was prepared to capture the moment on video. During the interview, Clarkson says “I think it’s pretty cool that there’s no video…” to which Stefani quickly interrupts and says, “Kelly, it’s not cool that it’s not on video.” Stefani then laughs along with Clarkson and the audience.
How Did Shelton Propose To Gwen Stefani?
An excited Stefani shares the details of the moment. “I walked into the room and Blake was knelt down by the fireplace acting like he was going to get a fire started,” Stefani says. “He said, ‘Hey, can you go over to the cabinet over there and get me a fire starter.’ So I opened the cabinet and there was a ring in the box…It was a pretty magical moment.”
Shelton’s sister-in-law did manage to capture one photo of the happy couple after the proposal. Shelton shared the photo on his Instagram, thanking Stefani for “saving his 2020.”
How Did The Couple Meet?
Gwen Stefani and Shelton met in 2014 while coaching contestants on The Voice. At the time, they were both married. Stefani was married to singer, Gavin Rossdale. Shelton was married to fellow country singer-songwriter, Miranda Lambert. In 2015 Stefani and Shelton both went through divorces.
During an interview, Stefani said that it was at that time that the two began confiding in each other and becoming closer. “It was during that time, he came up to my chair… I never saw him look so upset. So then I was like, ‘I gotta talk to you.” Later that year, the couple began dating and the two have been a couple ever since.
