15-year-old Carter Rubin, of team Gwen Stefani, was crowned the winner of The Voice on Tuesday night after a competitive 19th season.

At 15, Rubin now holds the title of the show’s youngest male winner ever. He’s also one of the youngest singers to ever win the show at all. Season 14 champ Brynn Cartelli was also 15 when she won.

Stefani has been overwhelmed with excitement while celebrating her first win on the show with champion Carter Rubin. After the finale was over, the pop star discussed a number of topics with Rubin. Stefani even shared the surprising reason why she “felt bad” for him during the blind auditions.

“I’m so grateful that I pressed my button,” Stefani said. “And the fact that Carter chose me over John Legend was like ‘What? Why? What are you doing?’ It was almost like I felt bad for him for a second.”

Stefani gushes over the 15-year-old during the entire interview. She also shares her biggest piece of advice for the teen going forward in his career. You can see the exchange in the video below.

“The way that he can compose himself enough to make a vocal performance that is so in control and so emotional and so in the moment, it amazes me as an artist myself. I can never do that on TV, so to watch him do it at that age … it’s incredible. It’s so inspiring.”

Gwen Stefani Gets Her First Win as Coach on The Voice

In what was the final episode of this year’s show, it was Team Blake Shelton vs. Team Gwen Stefani in the end.

The finalists for both teams, Jim Ranger and Carter Rubin, battled it out. With Rubin taking the win, Stefani was able to defeat her fiancé Blake Shelton for her first-ever win on the show. Last season, Shelton’s artist Todd Tilghman won Season 18 of The Voice.

Stefani, meanwhile, has been on cloud nine ever since her singer won. She posted to social media following the show’s finale where she and Rubin were being showered with confetti.

Shelton, the series’ winningest coach with seven victories, and the only coach to appear on all 19 seasons, finished season 19 in second place. And although he was without a doubt upset that he didn’t win in back-to-back years, he still took the time to congratulate his fiance and her singer Carter Rubin for their victory.

“Congrats on the win @gwenstefani! I’ll let this one slide!” Shelton wrote on Twitter. “@carterjrubin… if anyone beat #TeamBlake, I’m glad it’s you!!!!”

Season 20 of The Voice will be coming in 2021 on NBC.
