Gwen Stefani Talks ‘First Married Thanksgiving’ in Oklahoma With Blake Shelton

Remember that scene in “Elf” where Will Ferrell’s character screams “I’m in love, I’m in love, and I don’t care who knows it” at the top of his lungs? Well, that’s how Gwen Stefani feels about Blake Shelton. That might be how some Outsiders feel about Blake Shelton too, but he’s a married man now. He’s taken. The two actually tied the knot together back in July.

The story behind his wedding vows/song for her is so cute you just might puke. Even “Wheel of Fortune” climbed aboard the honeymoon train recently, featuring the couple in a puzzle. Now, this wasn’t exactly a “first” for either of the duo separately with their level of fame. Still, it was a pretty special moment to share together. And on the topic of “firsts,” the two are set to return to Oklahoma for the very first time since their wedding. This also means it’s their first official “married Thanksgiving.”

Gwen Stefani Talks Tradition

Apparently, visiting Blake Shelton’s home state has become a tradition for the couple who first started dating in 2015. Gwen Stefani tells ET:

“We leave next week to go to Oklahoma, it’s a tradition. My whole family flies out, and we have not been back there since the wedding. So I’m really looking forward to it,” she started. “We have a new house there. We have, like, a new life there. So it’s gonna be our first married Thanksgiving! Very grateful, very excited.”

Oklahoma is actually where Shelton proposed to Stefani in the first place, which makes their love story just that much sweeter. Here’s the past engagement reveal in case you missed it:

It seems the newlyweds have a whole season of “firsts” upon them. After Thanksgiving, there’s Christmas, New Year’s, Valentine’s Day; the list just goes on. And fingers crossed that means more songs ahead…

Holiday Meals Are a Family Affair

Gwen Stefani also talked to ET about the logistics of their holidays when it comes to cooking. Apparently, both the Shelton and Stefani squads chip in, though they differ in their approach.

The Stefanis seem to stay more traditional, while the Sheltons get a kick out of sprucing things up each year.

“My mom definitely likes to do her turkey her way. Blake likes to experiment with multiple smaller turkeys,” she reveals. “They did like the hot Cheetos turkey one year, and then this year I think they’re doing bacon-wrapped. I don’t know, it’s all the boys are talking about the different things they’re gonna do. I know one thing is we never did mac and cheese, but we’re doing mac and cheese. That’s the new added. Every year I feel like we add something new in.”
