It’s Kelly Clarkson’s 39th birthday today! Since her legendary American Idol win, Clarkson has been charming fans with her bubbly personality and powerful vocals. After her American Idol stint, Clarkson released her first album, Thankful, in 2003. Her 2004 album Breakaway contained a whopping 4 top ten singles, “Since U Been Gone,” “Breakaway,” “Behind those Hazel Eyes,” and “Because of You.”
Since then, Clarkson has released six more albums, with a total of 8 albums and 11 top ten singles in the U.S. She’s also hosted her own talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, and has served as a coach on The Voice since their 14th season.
Here are some of the singer’s best moments:
Kelly Clarkson’s ‘American Idol’ Journey
The first time Kelly Clarkson got the chance to win the hearts of America was her incredible journey on American Idol during its first season in 2002. She went from a timid yet vocally powerful young performer at the start of the season, to an unstoppable musical force by the end. Many would argue that no American Idol journey quite comes close to hers.
Clarkson Covers the King of Rock N’ Roll
Another highlight from Kelly is her skillful cover of Elvis’s Burning Love on her own show. This isn’t Clarkson’s only cover. She’s done incredible renditions of many songs across genres. She’s also done a vocally rich blues cover of Taylor Swift’s Shake it Off.
Six Languages in One Performance
Last year, Kelly Clarkson sang I dare You in six different languages. She released the song during the height of the pandemic. She explained that the song was about love, in all its forms, even in the face of severe adversity and that the song was an homage to choosing love over fear. The powerful performance packs an equally powerful message.
Clarkson had to learn how to properly annunciate words in each of the languages while singing and worked with singers across the globe to make it happen.
Fans applauded her for her vocals.”Her control of this uptempo song was spot-on, and her breath control when she was singing in different languages was impressive as hell. […] The song had so much meaning and depth. She’s no ordinary singer; she’s one of the best,” a fan astutely commented.
Kelly Clarkson stops Show to Hold Baby
Clarkson’s best moments don’t just involve her talent but also her humanity. The vivacious singer paused a concert to hold a baby in the audience, Boston. The moment was captured on camera and uploaded by his parents in 2015.
Her down-to-earth and sweet banter with Boston and his parents shows that while she may be a superstar now, she hasn’t lost the sweet parts of herself that people fell in love with all those years ago on American Idol.
Clarkson Announces She’s Pregnant
Even since her Idol days, the one thing that can trip Clarkson up while she’s singing is her emotions. She announced her pregnancy spontaneously during a concert. She was trying to perform the emotional song, Piece by Piece when she just couldn’t do it anymore. That’s when she stopped singing and turned to the audience and said “I’m totally pregnant.”
These are just a few small snippets from the singer’s career. Her outstanding talent as a vocalist makes her music fantastic, but Clarkson’s humility, infectious smile, and grace make her an overall joy. Whether it’s watching her on The Voice, her own show, or watching her perform, she consistently steals the show without even meaning to.
