Noah Cyrus is 21 years old today. The younger sister of Miley Cyrus recently had a breakout year, but stepping out of her family’s shadow and into her own spotlight hasn’t been easy. In fact, she said at times it was “absolutely unbearable.”

But she’s much more than just than the youngest member of the Cyrus Clan. She’s an impressive talent in her own right. So, who is Noah Cyrus?

Getting to Know Noah Cyrus

The model, singer, and actress exploded into the public eye last year after an outfit she wore at the Country Music Awards. The barely-there, shimmering bodysuit got a lot of people talking, but it also got her noticed. And once people had overlooked her wardrobe they were complimenting her voice. That voice helped land her a Grammy Award for Best New Artist nomination.

Noah is a talented singer with a big, over-the-top sound like Miley. Noah released her first single “Make Me” at 16 and has been making music since.

Though being a singer and the kid sister of one of the world’s biggest pop stars hasn’t been easy, she said. She’s struggled to find her own way.

“It was absolutely unbearable,” she told Harpers Bazaar. “And that’s why I write, ‘My sister’s like sunshine / Always bringing good light wherever she’ll go / And I was born to rain clouds / Blessed in her shadows.’ Because that’s why everybody always says to me, that no matter what, I was going to be in that shadow. And I always believed that, and that’s so hard for me to overcome.”

But they’ve seemingly gotten over that. They performed together for MTV Unplugged over the summer and were phenomenal.

But while she admits that growing up in the public eye was difficult, she’s been proud to use it to help others.

“I’ve struggled with anxiety and depression since I was 10 or 11 years old,” Cyrus told James Corden on The Late Late Show last year. “One of the things that I’ve always wanted is to use this platform to talk about my mental health and help young adults all around America and everywhere in the world know that they’re not alone.”
