The “Queen of All Media,” Oprah Winfrey, is celebrating turning 67 today.

Queen is the best word to describe Winfrey. She can give a spectacularly influential speech while also inspiring millions of people.

Oprah Winfrey is most known for her talk show, “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” which ran from 1986 to 2011. She is one of the most popular and successful voices in the industry.

As a talk show host, TV producer, actress, author, and philanthropist Winfrey has consistently shown the world just how much she’s capable of. While she does many things, none of them are taken lightly. She currently has a net worth of about $2.5 billion.

She was the first Black multi-billionaire in North America and has been ranked by many to be the most influential woman in the world.

With the woman who does it all, and does it better than most, what are some of her best moments to date?

Oprah Winfrey’s Book Club

Many entertainment personalities have started successful book clubs, such as figures like Reese Witherspoon. However, Winfrey’s book club has been suggesting powerful literature for people to read since 1996. She currently has over 80 books that she selected for viewers to read.

Many of the novels she picks highlight Black authors or narratives of racial justice. She has suggested books like “Becoming” (the Michelle Obama autobiography), “American Dirt,” “Deacon King Kong,” and “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents.”

On her website, Winfrey tells the story of a woman who came up to her the first year she started the book club. She said, “Before I joined the book club, I had never read an entire book.”

“Had I not been taught to read at an early age, I’d be an entirely different person. Thanks to books, I knew there was another kind of life. The chance to give another person that same gift? That was one of my proudest moments,” Winfrey said.

Her book list continues to be a go-to for people in need of a good read.

The Small Change Campaign

Oprah Winfrey started The Small Change Campaign in 1997. The goal was to help raise money for students to attend college.

She asked her viewers to send in their loose change to create the world’s largest piggy bank. The result was $3.5 million in savings. It allowed the 50 students the opportunity to go to college.

It was one of her many acts of charity that so accurately would name her one of the greatest philanthropists.

“One of my happiest days on television was seeing the astonishment on those students’ faces when they heard they’d have an opportunity that would forever change their families—proof that what we call small can make an immeasurable difference,” she said.

She has donated millions of dollars to charities over the years. These include The Angel Network, The Oprah Winfrey Foundation, and The Oprah Winfrey Operating Foundation as just a few. She has also supported charities like NAACP, GLAAD, ALS Association, and Women for Women International.

‘YOU Get a car! YOU get a car!’

One of the most exciting moments to date on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” is that famous moment Winfrey went around pointing to her audience screaming, “YOU get a car!”

She was celebrating her show’s 19th season and did so by giving away Pontiac G6s to all 276 audience moments.

It was a moment that left audience members ecstatic and viewers in jealous awe. It is the most memorable of Winfrey’s charitable gifts to her audience members. Winfrey said that she brought in EMTs for the occasion in case someone’s heart began palpitating too quickly.

Then, in 2002, she started her tradition of giving audience members a truckload of her favorite things. Winfrey has given people literal fits of hysteria with her good deeds.

Oprah Winfrey and Food

There’s one moment that will always be remembered and is one of her greatest quotes to date. It is, “I love bread.”

In fact, Winfrey was always vocal about her diet and how she chose to stay healthy.

In 2017, she introduced her new food line called, “O, That’s Good.” She also owned OWN and was a Weight Watcher spokesperson.

She teamed up with Kraft Heinz to launch this line of health-conscious comfort foods. She loves bread, but this was a natural food line to share with everyday people.

Delivering One of the Greatest Speeches

At the 2018 Golden Globes, Winfrey won the Cecil B. DeMille Award. She gave one of the most inspiration speeches.

Oprah Winfrey had been known for her powerful monologues on “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” however this is her stand-up performance as an amazing speaker.

Her speech was a reflection on the MeToo movement that was, and is, continuing to shed light on sexual abuse and sexual harassment. It has been especially influential in the entertainment business as many long-standing abusers have been called out for their mistreatment of women.

She looked back on the moment she saw Sidney Poitier receive an Oscar. It was a moment she would never forget because “I had never seen a black man being celebrated like that.” She then spoke about the press and their impact on shedding light into a lot of darkness.

‘Time’s Up’

“I want to say that I value the press more than ever before as we try to navigate these complicated times, which brings me to this: what I know for sure is that speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have. And I’m especially proud and inspired by all the women who have felt strong enough and empowered enough to speak up and share their personal stories. Each of us in this room are celebrated because of the stories that we tell, and this year we became the story.”

She told the story of Recy Taylor who had died that year on her 98th birthday. She was walking home and abducted by six white men in 1944. They raped her and left her blindfolded on the side of the road. She was a woman that was unable to speak her story.

“So I want all the girls watching here, now, to know that a new day is on the horizon! And when that new day finally dawns, it will be because of a lot of magnificent women, many of whom are right here in this room tonight, and some pretty phenomenal men, fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us to the time when nobody ever has to say ‘Me too’ again,” she said, according to Oprah.com.

50th Birthday Bash

Oprah Winfrey was surprised by a celebration of her 50th birthday.

She was so overjoyed and surprised that she was actually broke into tears. It included people like John Travolta wishing her a happy birthday on-air. Relive the special celebration with the video below:
