Linda Purl may be best known for her roles on the classic Happy Days and Matlock, but she also played an important role in The Office. Purl played Ashley on Happy Days and Ben Matlock’s daughter, Cheyenne Matlock, on Matlock. In The Office, Linda Purl played one of the lead character’s mothers, Helene Beesly.

Helene is the sweet and gossipy mother of Pam Beesly, the office secretary. Over the course of the show, Pam struggles with the fact that her parents are getting a divorce. Purl took over the role of Helene Beesly after Shannon Cochran, who had previous obligations, had to drop from the show.

One of the funniest plotlines in The Office revolves around Helene dating Pam’s boss, Michael Scott (Steve Carrell). When Pam finds out her mother is dating her eccentric, idiotic, and often inappropriate superior, she freaks out.

Even though Helene is clearly out of Michaels league, Michael ends up not wanting to see her because she’s too stable and too “old.” Both horrifically and hilariously, he does this at a birthday lunch in front of Pam and her fiance. The Happy Days actress had to play a character who kept her relative cool during such a disastrous scene.

“I’m 58,” She says in the awkward car ride home with the four of them, “What am I supposed to do now?”

‘Happy Days’ Linda Purl is now Dating Patrick Duffy

Dallas star Patrick Duffy and Linda Purl found love during the pandemic. The Happy Days star got connected with Patrick Duffy through mutual friends. They had met in person a few times and started writing e-mails back and forth during the pandemic.

“And at first we were saying, “Gee, when this pandemic is over in 6 or 10 months, let’s have dinner, okay, that’s a date,” Purl told Broadway World, “Then suddenly that wasn’t going to do. So Patrick heroically drove 20 hours from Oregon.”

Their romance happened gradually according to Purl. “Facetime turned to a Zoom, and once we were Zooming, we Zoomed every night for a couple of hours, just talking. And somewhere in there, at some point, it turned a corner.”

Patrick Duffy echoed the sentiments about their surprise long-distance romance. “We literally fell in love 1300 miles apart,” he said.

Now, the two spend their time between Oregon, Colorado, and Los Angeles. Purl recently landed a role in an upcoming HBO Max Series. Thankfully, her hilarious run on The Office isn’t the last we’ll see of her.
