‘Happy Days’ Star Henry Winkler Headlining Table Read Benefit Featuring Iconic ‘The Motorcycle’ Episode

Henry Winkler will reprise his role as The Fonz for a table read of the famous Happy Days episode “The Motorcycle.”

Winkler, who is directing the table read, will virtually don the leather jacket again to raise emergency financial and medical assistance, disaster relief, and scholarships to SAG-AFTRA artists and their families, Yahoo said.

Money raised will also go to support the Foundation’s free educational programming, including its children’s literacy program Storyline Online.

A number of famous actors will take over some of the major roles from Happy Days. Glenn Close will play Marion Cunningham. John Carroll Lynch will play Ron Cunningham. Eli Goree will play Richie Cunningham and Aldis Hodge will be Ralph Malph.

Jamie Chung will be Joanie Cunningham, while Bridgerton‘s Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan will play Potsie Weber and an Al’s Diner waitress, respectively.

Close was nominated for an Oscar for her role in Hillbilly Elegy, a film directed by Happy Day’s alum Ron Howard.

“As the annual benefiting charity of the SAG Awards, we are so grateful to PEOPLE for 27 years of support. We want to thank them for their generous donation, and for sharing our very special virtual table read and fundraiser on all of their platforms,” said SAG-AFTRA Foundation President Courtney B. Vance.

“We also want to thank the beloved Henry Winkler for directing this Happy Days episode and bringing back his legendary role of ‘the Fonz’, and to all of the SAG Awards nominees who participated in this benefit on behalf of the Foundation and our community,” he continued. “This is what our Foundation is about — supporting our own community and helping those who need it most.”

The table read takes place March 29 at 8 p.m. EST at People.com.

Winkler Talks Seeing ‘Happy Days’ with Grandkids

Henry Winkler recently told Anderson Cooper that he’s been watching some of the episodes of Happy Days. And they’re making some observations she didn’t expect.

“We’re sitting on this couch and we’re watching Happy Days,” Winkler said. “(My grandson) looks at me, he looks at the screen. He looks at me, he looks at the screen. Poppop your hair looks different. Yes, I dye it now,” he joked.

But they seem to enjoy it. One of them went as The Fonz for Halloween, The Happy Days star told Anderson Cooper.

Winkler has also been spending time reading his bestselling Hank Zipzer book series for children via Zoom to kids.
